Unplug all the wire attachments to the back of the computer. If you have never done this before, lable them so you can put them back, Lable each connection and cable with corresponding numbers.

Set the computer on it's right side. Remove the two or three screws holding the side to the back. Slide the side backward about 1/2 inch and lift off. Disconnect the power connections to your drives (1 red, 2 black & 1 Yellow wire) and gently move them out of the way. Disconnect the data cables to your drive (the wide flat ribbon cables) and move them out of the way.

If you already have the ram (Randon Access Memory) then you know what to look for. There should be an empty slot on the motherboard. You will see the the RAM module has two notches in it. Look at the slot where the RAM will go and insert it into the slot, lining up the notches correctly. Press down gently but firmly on the ends of the RAM module while you lift up on the latches to hold it in place. When it snaps into place, latches and RAM, then it is installed.

Replace the drive data cables and press them home gently but firmly. Replace the drive power cables. Re-attach all the wire attachments to the back of the computer. Start the computer. If it starts OK, then use it for a few minutes. Shut down the computer and replace the side and screws. Now it is all set. If you have problems, go back over your work to make sure it was done correctly. It is reasonably easy, but somewhat daunting the first time.

Yes you can.
For 512 Mb RAM you can use a single 512 Mb memory module or two 256 Mb memory modules.
For 1 Gb RAM you can use a single 1 Gb memory module or two 512 Mb memory modules.

T2742 Desktop eMacine I want to upgrade the RAM from 256 MB to 1 GB. Can I replace the single 256 MB memory board with a single 1 GB memory board? Or, should I use two 512 MB memory boards?

Maximum Total Amount is 1GB.

EACH ram slot's Maximum Amount is 512MB.

Note* If you only install one ram memory module, make sure it goes into Slot 1.

(On the motherboard it may have DIMM 1, printed next to the slot)

Slot one is closest to the Processor. The processor reads ram memory that is in Slot 1, first.

I have compaq presario 5000 series...and iwant upgrade my ram ...i have 128+128 sd ram so how much i upgrade my ram...can i upgrade 512+512 sd ram OR 256+256 sd ram...thank you

the RAM upgrade will depend on ur motherboard capacity and specification.
u need to check ur MB manual
if ur MB can have only SD RAM then only SD RAM upgrade is possible...DDR will not work....
so be careful while buying ur RAM

intelD845GLLy MB...the following details are from the intel website

http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d845glly/sb/CS-012825.htm

System Memory Features
The D845GLLY board provide the following memory features:
  • Two DIMM sockets supporting 3.3 V (only) 168-pin 133 MHz Single Data Rate (SDR) SDRAM DIMMs with gold-plated contacts
  • Unbuffered non-ECC DIMMs only
  • Maximum total system memory: 2 GB; minimum total system memory: 64 MB
  • Serial Presence Detect (SPD) DIMMs only
  • Suspend to RAM
Caution Do not use ECC DIMMs with the Desktop Board. Using ECC DIMMs could damage the Desktop Board.
Integrator's Notes:
  • Registered DIMMs are not supported on the Desktop Board.
  • This Desktop Board has been designed to support DIMMs based on 512 Mbit technology for a maximum onboard capacity of up to 2 GB, but this technology has not been validated on this board.

Note To be fully compliant with all applicable PCI33 SDRAM memory specifications, the board should be populated with DIMMs that support the Serial Presence Detect (SPD) data structure. This allows the BIOS to read the SPD data and program the chipset to accurately configure memory settings for optimum performance.
hope this helps
Reg....bye

How to install memory on ecs G550 laptop can only see one slot with 512 MB ddr sodmmm where is the other slots to upgrade to 1GB ram

There are two memory slots which support PC2700/333 Mhz memory, maximum 1024 per slot.

ECS suggests using identical/matched pairs of chips from the same manufacturer for their units.

In most laptops there is an access panel which when removed gives you direct access to the memory chips for replacement. I couldn't find a mainboard diagram for this unit so I am unable to see if the memory slots are adjacent on the board but there is little reason they shouldn't be. You should be able to access both slots once the proper access panel is opened.

This is the website page for direct contact with ECS tech support if you have any further questions: http://www.ecsusa.com/ECSWebSite/Support/TSSRequest.aspx?CategoryID=3&MenuID=19&LanID=0

Help my pc is not detecting the correct amount of ram installed

Okay, first things first. IF the memory you installed is 1024 and you are using the on board video and it is 512 MB, you will only have 512 MB usable memory. This is because the on board video uses the installed memory to function. What ever the video memory is, subtract that form the total memory. If this is not the case, try re-seating the memory. If the numbers still do not add up then if there are four memory slots, make sure the memory is installed in the same color slots. Most desktops with 4 memory slots have two slots one color and the other two another color. Make sure both memory sticks are installed in the same color.

OptiPlex GX270 mini tower

Remove the 256mb memory and insert the 512mb memory in slot1 and see whether it works. Please note that the memory needs to be in pairs.

I think the GX260 is mini tower has two different moles
1) PC3200 compatible with memory - 184 Pin DDR3200 400MHz

2) PC2700 compatible with memory -184 Pin DDR2700 333MHz

Please enter the service tag on dell.com and find the manual and the right memory for your PC

All the best!
