Sounds like there maybe some kind of problem with *********** board connector. Double check that it is the right size, and be sure there are no places that still need power. When you get the chance I'd check the following:
Disc Drives
Hard Drives
That all cards are secure, if there are any loose connectors your comp will declare "short circuit". At that point, unplug the cord from the mother board (the power cable) and try again.
Any USB Cables
Anything that looks loose, and finally, recheck the compatibility with your system.

Good Luck!!!

Good Afternoon, I have a Dell Xps 420, I replaced the PSU with a 500 W Rocket, still the solid amber light. I then replaced the motherboard with a brand new motherboard from Dell, still the amber...

Here are some ideas for you to try.

1. Make sure your motherboard is up on motherboard standoff screws so that it isn't directly touching the case. Follow this link if you don't know what a motherboard standoff looks like:

2. Unplug all peripherals including RAM, video card, hard drives etc.

3. Make sure both the power supply's ATX 20/24 pin connector is plugged in to the motherboard along with the ATX 12V connector.

4. Make sure the power connector, reset switch, and pc speakers are installed into the motherboard correctly. If the power connector is installed incorrectly the PC will not boot up. Look at p.103 of the motherboard manual. The power connector is located at label 5.

5. If you are hearing any beeps after you press the power button post that information and if you're seeing any lights on the top bezel please post that information as well.

6. Either switch out the power supply or buy a power supply tester to make sure the power supply is good. They only cost $20 or so if you buy one from Newegg or Tiger Direct.

7. Make sure the processor fan is plugged into the motherboard.

Hope these ideas can provide a breakthrough for you.
Good luck and thanks for using FixYa.

Pulled out supply out of my emachine EL1600...I want to UPGRADE...don't want the same garbage. Do you know of a supply that will fit?

The emachines EL1600 is an ATX form factor to my knowledge. Just goto the store and get an ATX form factor power supply any brand and you should be fine. A 350watt or so should do you unless you're using a higher end video card.

Theres no brand requirements unless you're using a MAC.

This is the THIRD power supply to fail in 9 months. How do I send it in for Mfg Warranty replacement?

Take it back to the retail store, and get them to do the warranty-replacement.

Or, use the telephone-number and/or web-site information printed on the label of the power-supply, to contact the manufacturer.

Will not pwer up. Greenlight blinking on back

The green blinking light can mean there is a problem with the power supply.

Try unplugging the computer from the wall, and turning on the pc on switch.

After a few minutes, try plugging it back in.

If that does not start things up, you may have a bad power supply.

If the power supply is bad, these models take standard power supplies. You should get an ATX 350Watt or higher power supply.

They are easy to replace, unplug the power from the wall, disconnect all the cables inside the computer. Unscrew the four phillips screws outside the back of the computer where the power supply is attached to the case.

Remove and replace.

If you don't feel comfortable with this, a good local computer shop can help you out.

Bestec atx-250-12z rev d hp model 5187-1098 pc will not start up when pushing button on front of machine green led on back of p/s flashes with power cord plugged in. does this indicate a p/s failure?

I have already replaced mant Bestec ATX-250-12E power supplies because they have an internal failure. Consider yourself lucky if the thing doesn't power up your computer because it has a problem of imposing the +12 volt line onto the +5 Volt line then blowing out the mother board. Sometimes you aren't so lucky because once the damage is done then it is to late to just simply replace that piece of junk. I was lucky with my daughters E-Machine because if she tried pressing the start switch on the front of her computer it would sometimes come on and sometimes not. She just mentioned this to me and I immediately replaced that Bostec ATX-250-12E before it could do any damage to her computer. If anyone has an older E-Machine or an older Gateway machine then it would be a good idea to see if it uses that Bostec-ATX-250- 12E. If it does then go order another power supply, anything but a Bostec, and instead of a 250 watt order a 300 watt or better. I hope that this has helped those that might have this problem before it destroyes *********** boards. Marty

Dell Dimension 9100 will not power up

Most likely the power supply have failed. Although the system is getting some power to the Motherboard (Flea power indication on motherboard) there are at least 5 different voltages the power supply provides for the system. Losing any one can cause a no power situation like you describe.

A standard ATX power supply should resolve (It is the 1st item I'd replace, both because it is the 1st point of failure and the cheapest to replace)

Here is one ATX power supply:

AcerPower F1 PC Desktop Problem

It could be a bad power supply. As far as I remember, this unit has a standard ATX 230 watt power supply. It should not be too hard to replace it. Its fairly straight-forward. Its a matter of removing the panel to access the connectors inside (make note of which comes from where) and unscrewing the power supply on the back of the unit. Reverse all actions to install new power supply. If you need more detailed help, reply to this post.
