Nonfunctioning screensaver for Windows Vista Desktop

I have a Windows Vista Home Premium desktop, wired mouse, with a screensaver that will not run unless preview is selected. Any suggestions for resolving this?

Tried setting screensaver on factory settings with a 1 minute wait time.. This did not help, all of the time. It did come on twice only. I tried setting wired mouse on a black mousepad (that I had read helped someone else), but this did not work.

Unfortunately Solution #1 did not help. Oddly enough, the computer will not totally turn itself off unless I have chose NONE for the screensaver as well.

Click on the Settings on your screen saver.

Also make sure you have a time listed in the "wait" column. It may be set too high "in Minutes"

My suggestion is try one of the preloaded screen savers such as Windows Logo and set time "wait" to one minute to see if the screen saver you are using is at fault.

-Have you run Microsoft update recently? Vista SP2 version is out, maybe it will fix your problem.

-Power DVD software has also been known to cause issues with screen saver.

Virus on pc. installed norton internet security.

Never before have I heard of a VIRUS installing ANTI-VIRUS software. I have had intermittent mouse problems before though. Thought it was a virus, as I interchanged with like 4 other (used) mouses (mice?) and there was no change. Found a fifth used mouse-a genuine Microsoft mouse (I was running Vista 64bit Home Premium) and installed it and my mouse problem disappeared ("installing new device"). I couldn't figure it out for the longest time, (still can't), I'm just glad it cleared up.
I run AVG FREE antivirus software and Ad-Aware anti-spyware (also FREE). I run both of those at least once a week, in addition to defragmenting once a week, haven't had a problem since.

Screensaver will not activate...

I would remove the software for your keyboard. This will hand control of the screen saver back over to windows. Some keyboards come with third party software that conflicts with windows. If you want a functional set of "extra stuff" on your keyboard, then your best bet is to try one from another manufacturer.
