This type of problem occurs when the RAM slot is filled with or the RAM is loosely fitted in the slot then there will be bo proper contat between RAM and the slot. To repair it, pull out the RAM from its slot and clean the RAM conecting point and slot by blowing. If this dousn't work, try by inserting the RAM in another slot because the previous one may had damaged.

SOURCE: replace atx 250 12e power supply with 350watt power supply per

Sounds like there maybe some kind of problem with *********** board connector. Double check that it is the right size, and be sure there are no places that still need power. When you get the chance I'd check the following:
Disc Drives
Motherboard
Floppy
Hard Drives
That all cards are secure, if there are any loose connectors your comp will declare "short circuit". At that point, unplug the cord from the mother board (the power cable) and try again.
Any USB Cables
Anything that looks loose, and finally, recheck the compatibility with your system.

Good Luck!!!

My power went out and when it came back on the computer would not come on

eMachines uses low quality hardware components inside their computers. This is the way they can sell them at budget prices.

One main hardware component is the low quality power supply they use.
A generic power supply made by Bestec. (A generic power supply manufacturer)

(PSU. Power Supply Unit. The type of PSU used is a SMPS.
Switched-Mode Power Supply,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Switched-mode_power_supply )

Low quality;
A) Electrolytic Capacitors (Radial Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitor)
B) Rectifier Bridge
C) MOSFET/s
D) Wiring is too small in gauge
to name a few of the components.

However IMHO it is also best to check out the Power On switch.
There is a simple test to see whether the problem is a faulty Power On switch, or a faulty Power Supply.

The test involves bypassing the Power On switch. The Power On switch is not involved in this test.
A jumper wire is used on the Soft Power On wire, [ PS-ON ], and a Ground wire in the ATX main power cable connector.

If you bypass, and the Power Supply comes on you have a bad Power On switch.
If the Power Supply does Not come on you have a bad Power Supply.
If you would like to know more in detail on how to perform this simple test, simply post so in a Comment.

The Power Supply used is just a common ATX version.
ATX refers to the Form Factor of the power supply.
Regular size ATX form factor is approximately 6 inches Wide, 5-1/2 inches Long, and 3-1/2 inches Tall. (Height)

There are also differences in the pinout of the ATX main power cable.
Yours may have 20-pins, or 24-pins.
Power Supply's sold now take this into consideration.
Their ATX main power cable can be used as a 20-pin, or a 24-pin version.

[ General example of a 20-pin ATX main power cable, and it's connector,

Example of a 24-pin ATX main power cable, and it's connector,

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#atxmain24

Your motherboard may also require an additional power cable, commonly referred to as a P4 power cable, or P4 ATX 12V power cable, or just ATX 12V.
The actual name is 4-pin ATX +12 Volt power cable,

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#atx12v4

If you would like help in finding an inexpensive reliable Power Supply, please post in a Comment.
I will need to know what Model Number of eMachine you have. It's on the back next to the Windows product key, or up on the side of the computer tower.

If you need anything explained that I have stated here, please let me know in a Comment.

power supplies are common failures..a 300Watt ATX power supply is not very expensive these days so it would be an inexpensive way to see if this is the problem..the brown spot concerns me though..seems maybe you have a filter in the supply that may have leaked electrolyte...if you have another computer with the same type of supply in it..you can try it..as long as the plugs are the same and the wattage is the same or higher

Pulled out supply out of my emachine EL1600...I want to UPGRADE...don't want the same garbage. Do you know of a supply that will fit?

The emachines EL1600 is an ATX form factor to my knowledge. Just goto the store and get an ATX form factor power supply any brand and you should be fine. A 350watt or so should do you unless you're using a higher end video card.

Theres no brand requirements unless you're using a MAC.

I have a gateway 506gr with a Bestec atx300 psu. I was having problems being able to turn the computer on, then one day it would not turn on at all. I can push and hold the power button, and hear the psu...

Your psu is works fine.
First open cpu cabinet and find motherbord.
Pull CMOS cell from m/b for 10 minutes.
Refix RAM Memory.
Pull procesor fan and processor clean dust from all parts.
Then fix processor fan and processor.
Reconnect ATX connector to m/b.
Remove pci cards from PCI slot then check.
Let me know if you need more assistance.
Thanks.

Will not pwer up. Greenlight blinking on back

The green blinking light can mean there is a problem with the power supply.

Try unplugging the computer from the wall, and turning on the pc on switch.

After a few minutes, try plugging it back in.

If that does not start things up, you may have a bad power supply.

If the power supply is bad, these models take standard power supplies. You should get an ATX 350Watt or higher power supply.

They are easy to replace, unplug the power from the wall, disconnect all the cables inside the computer. Unscrew the four phillips screws outside the back of the computer where the power supply is attached to the case.

Remove and replace.

If you don't feel comfortable with this, a good local computer shop can help you out.

E-machine Model D2246 does not power up

E-machines are notorious for having weak power supplies. Although not impossible, it is unlikely the motherboards are damaged.

You may also look online for rebuilt power supplies that are beefed up from the originals.

Be sure you have a good surge suppressor and surge suppression on your phoneline if you use dialup. I also recommend surge suppression on your ethernet connection as well.

No power to 12 volt, Hard drive, or Disk drives.

Retrace your steps there may be a loose wire(s). Have you checked and rechecked your pinouts? maybe one of the wires is backwards. Hate when that happens. It could be bad out of box. Try unhooking everything then one by one rehook your components. Maybe by terrible coinsidence a part fried and is preventing the machine from booting. Make sure your CPU fan is plugged in. I am installing a new motherboard now and those are the pitfalls I keep track of.
