Question about Onkyo TX-SR606 Receiver

1 Answer

Onkyo Tx SR606 Listening Modes "Not Available" Via Optical I have my Sky+ Box plugged directly into my TV with an optical cable from Sky box to my 606. I had no problems changing the listening modes untill last week (drunk house mate randomly "pressed lots of buttons"). The optical cable is plugged into the Game/TV optical port. The Remote Mode/Input Selector was set to Game/TV. After said drunken button pushing the this was changed to CBL/Sat. I've reassigned back to Game/TV cos Im particular like that, but now when I press the Movie/TV button or Music button to change the listening mode the display says Not Available. I used to have a number of options to choose from eg All Ch St, PL IIx Movie, Neo:6 Cin plus a whole raft of others. I get all listening modes available when I watch BluRays through my PS3. The other oddity is when I turn my TV off the listening mode options I mentioned are all availble. Weird. Hope you can help. Regards, Robert.

Check to see if the DIRECT icon is illuminated on the panel...if so, cancel the DIRECT function. This is only a thought, also check HDMI settings as well as optical mappings...

Just telling because it happened to me... Is your optical cable connector well inserted? you have to appy a little pressure until you feel a snaping sound. Also, in case you wouldn't have the manual, here it is: http://www.intl.onkyo.com/downloads/manuals/pdf/tx-sr606_manual_e.pdf

HDMI signal cuts out for a few seconds constantly from receiver to television. It does it when switched to cable box and the roku box. Onkyo TX-SR606 Scientific Atlanta Cable box thru HDMI Roku Box...

Mine did the same thing where the screen would go black for a few seconds and then the picture and sound came back. I would try (1) switch HDMI cables, (2) try a different HDMI input in the back of the receiver, (3) try different input in the back of the TV. None of these seemed to work with mine. I finally ended up running the cable box direct to the TV and only run the audio through the reciever via coax or digital. No more problems. I think the HDMI inputs in the back of the reciever have a problem continuously carrying the signal if it is the leaset bit weak.

I have an audio problem with my TX-SR502.

If your remote also controls the Cable Box you might want to look at its audio settings. Maybe you muted it.

BTW: it would be a good idea to also run video and analog audio from the cable box directly to the TV if it has speakers so you can watch and listen independent of the Onkyo.

Onkyo TX-SR606 Reciever - 20 sec after power on, screen is green

The HDMI version in your receiver is 1.1 or 1.2 which will not pass video as it should. It's not Onkyo's firmware at issue, it's HDMI and in all receivers up to 2008 model year this is a very heated problem! The only fix is to run FIOS directly to the TV via HDMI and run it's audio to your receiver with Digital Coaxial or Optical. Hope this helps

Can someone tell me what the audio setting on the Onkyo TX-SR606 should be when the PS3 passes the signal as full multi-channel. My receiver always seems to say something different i.e. Dolby Digital or TV...

If you're running an optical cable from the PS3 to the receiver, best quality would be through the Dolby Digital, because that broadcasts in 7.1 HD Audio Format. There should be a way to get a default setting when the optical input is detected in your receiver.

No sound is coming through my Onkyo receiver from the cable box

The Playstation 3 automatically broadcasts video and audio through HDMI even when an optical audio cable is ran to the receiver. If your TV has an optical audio out, it's just best to run everything into the TV including audio, and then run the optical cable from the TV to the reciever. It's less confusing and less buttons/remotes you have to use when you want to change devices, i.e. Cable/PS3/DVD

How to Hook up HDMI from Comcast Motarola Cable Box

Connect the HDMI outputs on your various components to the HDMI inputs on your receiver. Connect the HDMI output on the receiver to the input on your TV. HDMI incorporates digital audio, so no need to buy optical audio cables. If your receiver does not have HDMI inputs for all your components, you will need to make a choice. HDMI = Best, component video + optical audio = second best, S-video+ optical audio = third best

ONKYO TX-SR606 Single output to TV

Hi there. for your receiver, the only time it can upconvert is when you go out as HDMI. In your current hookup (component out to tv) the signal from your cable (using a composite) will not be able to pass through the component cable. This means you either have to hook up your cable box using a component cable as well or add a composite cable (yellow) from monitor out of the receiver to the tv. Page 22 of the manual will show a diagram of the video signal flow. hope this helps.. ^_^
