Question about DISH Network Televison & Video

1 Answer

Usb drive stops copying video DVR files after about 150 gigs.

I have had dish network turn on the usb port on my dish network 722 dvr. i have acquired an appropriate external drive - 750 gigs or less, usb 2.0. i've formatted it with the correct tool on the dvr. but after i copy about 150 gigs (of the 698 gigs available) of data, the drive won't copy any more and instead tells me the usb is "busy with the other tv". i can't copy any more files. i've tried this twice and had the same thing happen both times. help! fred

Hi fred357I did notice your post and wanted to go into it further with you, I seen whereyou have a 750 gigs and you will need to make sure the receiver is readingthat. What you will do is press the MENU button and then presses the #4 buttonon the remote and then press "External USB Devices" Tab and press Manage Device. On the top right above "Select All" it will tell you what has been used andwhat you have remaining.

My dvr 722 is slow in playing back or stops from a prior recording. Do you have a solution?

Hi jrodd1 my name is Mike Houston of DISH Network, if the 722 DVR isslow in play back and stops prior to recording there are some things you can doto get this working right. The first thing you want to do is unplug thereceiver for 10 seconds and plug it back in. This will allow for the receiverto require the signal and will stop the slow play back and stops prior torecording a program. I will send a link to help with these steps. http://www.dishnetwork.com/SupportSection/video

Copy shows from dishnetwork 510 receivers to external hd

ic_technolog,

External Hard Drives are not supported on the 510 receiver. The 211, 211k, 411, 612, 622, 722, 722k, and 922 are all capable of having an external hard connected via the USB port on the receiver and a one time activation fee of $40. I hope this helps.

I want to record to a external hard drive in order to take to Ira

If you have a dish network system as listed in post a DVR 625 this is NOT possible, it will only work with VIP series Dish Network recivers. and they must be used on teh same model reciever such as Vip 722, tranfer to EXT HD then Watch on another 722!

Dish Network DVR VIP722 freezing up during playback

You more than likely are 100 percent correct. This is often the cause of the issue you had. The good news is that once the new receiver is in place you normally will not have any other issues as this receiver model is very reliable. One thing to consider is that Dish has some HD receivers available e.g. 222 etc that are non DVR but can act as a DVR unit with an external hard drive connected to the USB expansion port. This option gives you greater control of your recordings and eliminates the monthly DVR fee. There is a one time fee of 39.99 to make the USB port active but within the normal 24 month contract period that customers are often under one will have recovered all of the cost a the hard drive and the port activation fee. Just fodder for thought.

Downloading tv to computer from DVR?

You can do it by having the USB port on your unit activated (I think Dish Network charges a fee for this). Once activated, you can link the two together and save the files to your computer. The problem is that your computer won't be able to read the files. It will act as a storage unit only. If you ever wanted to watch the saved files, you would have to transfer them back to your receiver to watch them.

Recovery of content on DVR-625 hard drive

usually hard drive failure boils down to files not opening succesfully, or a random internal failure, not a physical issue with the hard drive, however because dish network repairs these issues on a large scale the fix is to wipe the software and start over which means all recordings are lost, unfortunately recovering these recordings is basically impossible... if you often record things which are imperative to your business i would suggest getting a 622/722 dvr which will allow you to download these recordings to an external hard drive via usb, you will have unlimited use uploading and downloading programs for a one time fee of about 40$
