Panasonic PV-GS39 -- Eats Tape, Reset Button, Playback Problems

When I try to playback a tape in the camcorder it either a) eats the tape, b) will not play and all, beep, and tell me to hit the reset button, or c) play the tape but with no sound and with blue lines down the screen. What's going on? I have the PV-GS39 and the way you described it mine has the same problem, i tried to bring it in to fix it but it was $360. The screen turns blue and says push reset button when i try to review my tape. When i try to record it records for 2 seconds and then turns blue and says reset. The camara makes a lour noise when it does this and i take it out and the tape is fallen out. The people that looked at it said theirs one piece thats messed up and they have to get a whole new thing for the tape (like where the tape goes in, looks like a motor kinda)

Ya sounds like a bad tape loader. your estimate sounds about right. tape sensors also go bad so I would have them check it also.

The camcorder eats tapes in record or playback modes

O heck my friend, the reason cameras eat tapes is simply because the capstan and heads need cleaning, odd how everyone forgets cleaning these last 10 years.

Help my

If you have the PV-GS39 Camcorder and are wanting to COPY THE VIDEO FROM THE PV-GS39'S DV TAPE, HERE IS WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO...........

1.Go to: http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-electronics/support/Cameras-Camcorders/Camcorders/MiniDV-Camcorders/Drivers-Downloads/model.PV-GS39.D

the above link will take you RIGHT to the web page to download the PV-GS39 Software & Drivers that YOU WILL HAVE TO HAVE. But if you have WINDOWS VISTA then you can use the WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER software that is ALREADY PRE-INSTALLED on your PC then you will NOT have to download the software from the above link.

2. You HAVE TO have a: FIREWIRE IEEE 1394 PCMCIA NOTEBOOK CARD. I got mine at: Best Buy for: $53.86 with taxes. the name of this card is: DYNEX FIREWIRE IEEE 1394 PCMCIA NOTEBOOK CARD.

3. You ALSO hae to buy the CORD that connects to the PV-GS39 and the DYNEX FIREWIRE IEEE 1394 PCMCIA NOTEBOOK CARD, the cord costs $36.79 ALSO at Best Buy.

I did ALL 3 of the above and now I'm copying my movies and videos from my tape in my camcorder onto my PC and BURNING the video onto DVD/CD Disks.

If you have any questions, you can email me at: uggyredmonster@comcast.net.

Sincerely,
Rick D. Michaels

Lines across screen on playback.

A Q-tip should never be used to clean a video head.  Unfortunately they can pull the tiny head out of alignment.  I believe this is your problem and the repaid may be more costly than a new purchase.

You better take in to get it serviced. It could be the take motor or a head adjustment needed.

Blue Bars and No Sound

My advice is that you should by a DV cleaning cassette. Put this in the camera and run it for 10 to 20 seconds only. running the cleaning cassette for a long time may damage the head.
good luck!
