Turn on and then the focus goes in and out and tells us to turn the camera off and on again. nothing works. cg Can you explain how you forced the lens out? I have tried using my fingernail to pry it out from the front, with no luck. I even took apart the camera to see if there was a way to reach it from the inside, but didn't see a way.

Try cleaning off the little button (focus button) it sounds as if it is blocked and can not make up its mind where to focus. Also, you could (and should now) exchange the camera from where you purchased it-before the 30 days most stores give for a return is over.
Someone on here with the same problem mentioned that they shook the camera violently and it fixed the problem of it not focusing. I tried the same thing and actually gave it some light slaps on the tabletop. Well, now it works! I'm somewhat concerned that this fix won't last long.
Like many others' FE-230s, this camera began not focusing shortly after the one year warranty expired. I found my receipt and it turns out that I purchased the 2 year service plan at Best Buy and could get the camera replaced. But, now it works. Will it fail again after the 2 year plan expires? Jeez....
I've got the same problem! When I turn on my camera, it just won't focus, and askes me to turn it off and on again. My camera is not that new, but it has done a great job all along, I love her x) so I hope I can get some help, please answer to email@example.com ASAP!!!!
I had the same problem and fixed it.
The problem is related to the lens not working properly and jammed up.
When powering on the camera, the focus goes in and out and the lens spin and then the message is displayed to turn camera off. When I turn the camera off, I noticed the lens did not fully hiberate into the camera like it did before the error message.
So to fix the problem I did the following:
Turn the camera on, when the lens extended out, I slightly rotated the outer most lens clockwise and counterclockwise to free the lens from the jammed position.
The error no longer appeared and the camera stayed-on.When I shut the power-off the lens completely hibernated again like normal.
