Question about Philips AJ3980 Clock Radio
June 1, 2009
Within the last week, my Philips AJ-3980 clock radio has been acting strangley. It will not tune in any local radio stations on the AM or FM bands. On the gold colored display, the display in the center reads MW for Medium Wave and displays frequencies like 621, 786,882, 1062 Khz. There is no audio from the radio. On FM all the American FM frequencies that I programmed into the radio display on the gold colored display screen, but no audio comes out of the radio. The CD part of the clock radio and alarms, and time display work fine. I tried unplugging the radio to "reset" it for the first time last week, it solved the problem for a day or two and now the radio is going back to acting strangely.
Any suggestions on solving this would be appreciated. Philips disconnected the number posted to call in the instructions, so I finally go through to them, and they gave me the name of a service center in Utica, NY. Is there any user replaceable battery that goes inside this radio, I found no reference to this if this may be the cause of the problem in the operating manual.

I had the same problem, that is how my problems with my beloved Phillips wake-up light started, the clock froze after having it for a little over 1 year..nothing worked so I gave up on it. I had it unplugged it for a few months over the summer.. when I turned it on again and the clock was unfrozen..?! Of course not fix-it solution for you..
But now it has new problems: It acts very strange, turns the light on and off by itself and sometimes gets this very annoying humming/buzzing sound.. which is gone when i "re-boot" it. I am sending it in for repair this week.
I simply can't survive the winter months without it!
