Burning Smell from Belt on Whirlpool Dryer

I changed the belt on my Whirlpool dryer, Model #LER5620KQ1 after the drum stopped turning. Now, the drum will turn when empty, but it makes an awful loud noise. If I fill it with clothes, the drum doesn't turn or barely turns, and I get a burning smell like the belt is burning up. Did I do something wrong when I changed the belt?

Thanks for the reply Vic. The idler is a glide style, and the teflon seems to be in good condition. Should I consider replacing with the wheeled idler? I am fairly certain the grooves are facing the drum, but I will check again. I think the loud sound I hear when it turns while empty is the belt slipping, and with the added weight of the clothes, it is too loose to turn at all. Is there anyway to adjust the tension on the belt?

Hi, You need to check and see if the belt has slipped off of one of the pulleys. Was the idler the wheels style or a glide style?
Make sure the grooves in the belt are facing the drum and they are in the grooves of the motor pulley.
Please let me know if this helps and if I can assist you further.

I would replace the idler to the wheel style.
After a while, the glide style puts a drag on the belt
    Hope this helps

Asko t701 dryer burning smell

Loud noise is not a good description. What does it sound like? The dryer has a belt that turns the drum, the belt can wear and slip, there is a also a tensioner pulley on the belt system and then there is the motor that turns the drum. The smell could be from the belt, however you should know that dryers are not maintenance free and you have to clean them at least annually because they can build up lint in the cabinet and that lint can get into the heating element and it can start a fire.

My whirlpool ler5620kq1 elec dryer is almost 8 yrs old and I am looking to replace belt and need instructions

ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO ANY WORK ON IT.
If you have to check/replace your drum belt and if you have a front loading machine.
Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer. Be real careful not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch or other connections.
Remove the lint filter screws and filter.
Then remove the top of the dryer.
Remove the front of the machine, this will expose the belt and drum, remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm bracket with pulley, and motor with pulley. Pay attention to the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go to reinstall the belt and drum.
Sometimes the belt will slip off of the idler arm or motor causing the drum not to turn.
While you have the drum out, I would recommend that you lubricate the drum rollers at the shaft of the roller with a good grade of machine oil like 3 in One oil. This will save you a problem later with the rollers getting noisy, also check your drum rollers for flat spots, if they have flat spots on them this will cause a noise like a thumping type noise. You will need to replace the drum rollers if they have flat spots on them.

How to replace the belt for a whirlpool ler5620kq1 dryer

It is a very tricky task to put this belt on but I think I can work you through it. When you get the belt around the drum and get to the idler, push the belt under the idler wheel and through the forks of the idler pully assy. attaching it to the pully on the motor. Tension should be on the idler pushing the wheel up toward the drum. Hope this helps.

Condensing tumble dryer not running

has the belt shredded and wrapped itself around the shaft? try to manually rotate the drum to see if the belt is free and the motor shaft moves. it sounds like the motor is stuck and the smell is the uncirculated heat at the back. let me know your results.
taking the lid off will gain access.
