Question about Soyo SY-P4I865PE Plus DRAGON 2 v1.0 Motherboard

1 Answer

SY-P4I865PE + Dragon 2 v1.0 locks up while running XP with 3.0E P4

I am setting up a computer for my girlfriends little brother using a Soyo P4I865PE Plus Dragon 2 v1.0 mobo. Using 400-watt power supply, P4 Prescott(3.0E/1m/800fsb), 512mb DDR400, 120gb IDE hard drive, and XP-Pro. The problem: System locks up from time to time(with cpu described above) but has so problem when run with another cpu I have (2.8/1m/533). Problem happens when running virus scans and having lotz of internet pages open at a time...this is how I can force the problem to happen to test if something I have done has fixed it. Tested Good: DDR, HD, video card, power supply, and cables. My next things to try are Bios Update and downloading mobo drivers, but I don't know which ones to use or where to find them (Soyo website down for last couple of days)... Anyone know where I can find what I'm looking for or have any other ideas?

I considered that as well, which is why I tested the ram(in this mobo and another aswell) and tried a differend stick.

Also, I was always sure to watch the task manager to watch out for such a problem, never got it to use more than 310mb at a time...

Video Card is 128mb Radion 9200 AGP 8X, sorry I forgot to mention that before...but the video card cant be the problem cause I already tested that too...tried switching with an old ATI Rage 128 Pro and didn't stop the problem...

Also I know the problem can't be a bad PCI card eather because I don't currently have one installed, but If I get this bord working right, I intend to put in a wifi card...:)

Thanks for your continued help, I am just out of ideas.lol

I've search all over for drivers and bios updates for this board, but when I do think I've found something to download, the download tries to link to the SOYO website to find the downloads, but fails as that website is no more...
Doesn't anyone out there have any DRIVERS or BIOS UPDATES for this board? ;(
Maybe the driver disk that came with the board?

I would say ram. Most the time you have lockups is because of a bad ram address. The system will run for a while till you fill up enough resources to reach the bad ram address then the system will lock up. The funny part of your problem is that it doesn't happen with the other CPU. But I don't think the DDR400 ram was designed to be used in systems with a Prescott CPU. The motherboard may accept the ram and the CPU's all right but the Prescott was a pretty powerful CPU for it's time and I think most of the systems it was designed to run in used a lot faster ram.

Does the system have a built in video card though? Even if youi were only using 312 mb of ram the video card may have been using some

Hello you can read the manual from here:

http://www.elhvb.com/supportbios.info/Archives/MANUAL/SOYO/MP4IP2v10.pdf

A pdf reader is needed to read content.

1. Turn the power on
2. To enter the BIOS Setup Utility, press the <DEL> key while the system is performing the diagnostic checks.

Good luck

I added more RAM while upgrading from XP to Windows 7 Home Premium but the RAM does not show as usable. The system is slow. Have 1GB in 2 slots and 1-512KB in the other slot. How do I know the RAM is...

to check the type of ram you could remove it to check the brand/type before you do this
try uninstalling a few unnecessary programs then click start run type cmd then type chkdsk/r/f this should schedule to happen on reboot which will scan for and attempt to recover bad sectors and automatically fix any corrupt files on your hard drive or
click startcontrol panel administrive tools, computer management ,disk management right click on your drive select properties click tools you should see click check now click start two boxes automatically fix files and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors place then a tick in both boxes then select check now, start should schedule this task when restart
do not do anything while the chkdsk utility is in progress any input will damage your computer
then you should test or replace all leads make sure they are securely seated and are not bad/faulty that are attached to your (((motherboard to your hard drive))
defragment your hard drive will speed up your computer
scroll to the bottom toolbar (bottom of screen) right click you can select task manager applications also processes you will see whats running on your computer you might have virus slowing your computer also select users you will see who is using your computer

No video at all. Soyo dragon 2 SY-P4I865PE Plus

It may be your RAM. Try using only one RAM card at a time and keep switching them until you figure out which one it is. Otherwise, you could try a PCI graphics card, but you would have to change the settings in the BIOS so it knows to use the PCI card instead of the AGP.

You can also check to make sure the processor is in it's socket correctly.

Finally, if you can, try the components with another motherboard to see if it is the motherboard.

I hope this helps :)
