Hi,

Whirlpool refrigerator parts (along with the rest of the popular brands) depend on the proper function of the refrigerator's thermostat. If the thermostat goes bad, the entire operation of the rest of the refrigerator parts is affected. If you have frozen food even at the lowest temperature setting, you should test and replace the thermostat if it is defective. It is often found at the bottom of the refrigerator under the floor, but some models have it located in the back of the freezer compartment. You may need to remove the floor panel, or shelving and other obstructions to get at the thermostat. Whirlpool refrigerator parts, and others may be easy to track down on the internet and order, but if you feel a particular job is beyond your expertise, it may be a good idea to order a repair manual for your unit and get some additional information before attempting a do-it-yourself fix.

This link should give you the solution you were looking for.

Thank You

The refrigerator is not cooling enough. Even though I turn the dial up to the maximum 7, the temperature will not go below 50 degrees. I need to maintain a temperature below 47 degrees.

There could be two reasons for this
The thermostat is not working properly - replace the thermostat
There is a small refrigerant leak and the fridge cannot get cold enough - you will need a technician to find the leak and regas the fridge

WRF40: It will only work on the lowest temp setting. The PC board has been replaced before

sounds like the thermostat is not working properly because once the refrigeration side of it is either on or off. So I'd say the thermostat is turning it off to early. try bridging out the thermostat and then you'll know. Make sure you unplug it first.
hope this helps

WHIRLPOOL FRIDGE FREEZER MODEL ART 201. REPLACING

Hello,
It is often the case that if the thermostat is not working, the best route to take is to replace it rather than try to fix it, unless you have the necessary knowledge to do so. Most of the time, these are not as expensive as you would think and can be easily installed into the refrigerator. Here are some steps to follow to find out what the best route for you to take is in repairing or replacing your thermostat.

Good luck.....
Locate the thermostat and get all necessary model numbers, serial numbers and model codes. This information should be available for the refrigerator itself as well. Use this information to find and purchase the correct thermostat for your refrigerator.
Next, remove all power from the unit. Unplug the unit completely and make sure that it is not running before moving forward. Then, remove the old thermostat by cutting through the wiring.
To install the new thermostat, trim the lead wires to the right length. They are generally too long to start with. Terminate back into the circuit. The device will act as if it is a switch. This means that the direction or the coloring of the wires is not important. So long as you can cut off the current moving through them to the main defrost element you have no problem.
Make sure to properly dress the wires to insure that no part of them comes into contact with the defrost elements as this can cause them to melt.
Replacing a thermostat doesn’t have to be a lot of work, when you know what the problem is and can get easy access to the parts you need. Determine if your thermostat is bad by running through those tests first. When you do replace it, make sure to test to make sure it is working properly by allowing the unit to cool for several hours and testing the temperature within it.

When you switch on the fridge, do you hear the sound of compressor working OR when you touch the fridge there is little vibration. If not then the power is not properly connected. Check the power supply cord and ensure that wires are connected properly. Also check the power outlet in the wall. If above is OK then you have to get the gas checked up. There may not be sufficient gas. If the gas is OK then the condenser/compressor is not functioning for that you have to call a technician from the technician from the service center.

My refrigerator and freezer are no longer cold I don't here my compressor running is that a part I can replace my self?

Check/do the following:
Note: You may need the service of a qualified technician to do the job. The compressor and condenser are not user serviceable.
  1. Check for any open or burnt wiring and rewire if necessary.
  2. Check fuses and circuit breakers.
  3. Check and reset overload relay.
  4. Turn the thermostat knob to the proper setting.
  5. Pullout the capacitor and check it. Using an ohmmeter, connect the test leads to the capacitor terminals. Do the same with the test leads in reverse. The pointer must deflect to the right and smoothly moves back to the left. Otherwise capacitor is defective. Replace it with the same specifications.
  6. If compressor and capacitor is found okay, check for open thermostat. Unplug the unit and connect test leads of ohmmeter to the plug terminals. Turn the thermostat knob. The ohmmeter pointer must deflect, otherwise replace thermostat.
  7. If all of the showed no problem then you probably have a low refrigerant in your unit. Check for any leak and recharge.

Whirlpool refrigerator model number gc3phexnso2 freezes everything in the fresh food compartment.

  • If your refrigerator temperature is closer to 35 degrees, try turning the temperature up slightly.

  • If you find that the temperature varies a lot from the top shelf to the bottom (where it is coldest), try putting produce and other sensitive products on a higher shelf.

  • If the temperature is too low and you can't make it warmer by adjusting the thermostat, you probably have a defective thermostat. If so, you need to replace it, because they cannot be repaired. Other possible problems are a leak in the sealed (refrigerant) system, cold air migration (in side-by-side models) or a defective air damper. These problems can be quite difficult to locate and correct, we recommend you contact a qualified appliance repair technician.

Whirlpool refrigerator gets too cold

This is a common problem that often doesn't have a clear, permanent solution. The first thing to check is the overall internal refrigerator temperature. The proper temperature should be between 35 and 42 degrees.
