Random Protection mode.

When I first got the amp everything worked fine. Just recently (Haven't even had it a month) it randomly turn on protect mode and the subs stop working. I does not matter if the car is on or if just on accssory. It doesn't matter if I have the stereo loud or quite. No matter what i do it randomly work and stops working. I dont know if I need a capacitor or what. Its hooked up with bridged 12" Alpine Type E's (2x Alpine 1243 Subs). All the help I could get would greatly be apprieciated.

Disconnect all speaker connections and rca cables. Leave power, ground and remote wires intact. Try turning on again. If you still have a protection light your amp is faulty. Hopefully you have warranty. Clipping means you have exceeded capacity. .A thumbs up would be greatly appreciated if this answer is helpful to you. Hello bluejayswinn,

If you have the 2 Alpine 1243's wired in parallel to the bridged terminals, your amp is seeing a 2ohm load and it is only stable to 4ohms in bridged mode. I'd try connecting the subs one to each channel and see if it stops going into protection. You'll get the same effective power and the impedance on each channel will be 4ohms.

You might also want to check the ground connection and make wure that you are getting a good ground. Also, check the sub wiring to make sure that the insulation has not chafed on something sharp and is shorting intermittently.

If you are operating the amp within it's rated impedance and all of your wiring checks out OK, the amp has probably developed a defect and needs repair. The manufacturers warranty on the Nitro BMW-482 is one-year.

Hope this helps.

JBL Amp P80.2 - Random output failure

i had an amp that did that for a while before frying. its possible that it could be overheating causing it to go into protection mode which can be fixed with a cooling fan or remounting it somewhere else so it can get some air. it needs to be mounted in a way that it will have at least 1/2" clearance under it so it can have plenty of airflow. the other thing is you may be putting too much of a load on the amp causing it to go to protection mode. check and see how u have the sub wired and if the amp is stable. if u have the sub wired at 2ohm for more power output and the amp is only stable at 4ohm, then the amp will overload and cause the problem your experiencing. thats what happened to my amp. i had it wired for more than it was stable for and it fried

It's likely that the amp has blown output transistors. To eliminate other possible problems, read through the following page:

Problem with azur 640a amp

protection mode activated to protect your amp from a problem.
please disconnect all your speaker from the amp and check if it is fine start to connect your speaker one by one until you find the bad one which make the problem-change its cable first and then speaker itself.if the problem still you will have a problem in amp.

Red LED "Protection Light is on" What is the problem

The red light means the amp is in protection mode. A few things can cause protection mode..... First disconnect the subs completely from the amp, and turn it on, if it powers up you have blown subs. Also try checking the main power wire at the battery...sometimes the current your meter is seeing is backfeeding from the remote wire, so your main power line could be blown at the fuse under the hood. hope this helps
