Question about Dell W4200 42 in. HD-Ready Plasma Television

2 Answers

There is no picture, only sound. Cannot use Menu features.

Upon turning ON the tv, the blue Dell logo appears completely and starts almost immediately to fade away... and the picture becomes dark, as if it is OFF. The sound is normal, as I manually change the channels, it changes to that channel's sound.

Cannot use any of the Menu features, like to change to DVD or CD because nothing appears on screen. The tv is on the supplied stand and I use long range outside antenna for reception. No Cable service used. I have the tv for 2 years.

The problem started when watching tv, heard a low noise pop and suddenly the picture disappeared.

Checked with tv repair shop around here, it is very expensive for me at this point, so any help I can get that will help me do by myself, like where to get the replacement parts, would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Frank

Please be more especific if possible on the boards that may be a problem, give some explanation on each board if they are different. which one check first, second, etc..please be detailed on causes e solutions.

Since I am not going to a technitian at this time for financial reasons, I may have friends with eletronic repair background to help. Part of the question is where to find Dell TV parts like these boards.

    Thanks

  • ffan1 Jun 06, 2009

Thank you !!! This was very clear.

I just want to make sure.

On your last sentence when you wrote " to blown Y-buffer boards", did you mean "two blown Y-buffer boards" ?

If I get these two y-buffer boards, a trained technitian could solder them in for me ? or a special equipment is needed?

    Thanks again,

    Frank

If you could give me the completed model number, that would be great.

This will help me grab the schematics to help a bit more.

OK, you gave me a incomplete model number. i will need the whole number in order to access the right parts you need and correct schematics.

This is what you posted-- W4201C...

I will need the whole Model number please. this is very important for accuracy.

Hi, don't worry about the model number frank, i have located your set in the archives and , this repair will be expensive. you will need two new (Y) buffer boards. the factory buffer boards that were installed during the manufacturing of the set are defective. they have bad solder joints that will separate and create a unstable current that has shorted out both conjoining boards. they are on each side of the screen. They are both dead at this time. that is why you can hear the sound but not picture. it fades to black. this is the results of a faulty buffer board set(Y).

These buffer boards are only available through dell and, they are only installed by dell tech unfortunately. this repair will run into the 2000 dollar range as well.

Just to clarify, your problem is that you have to blown Y-buffer boards.

I apologize for the typo. I meant to say two and, yes. a qualified tech will be able to solder the replacement buffers for you. you will need a small point soldering iron and solder as well. precision tools are needed as well.

That also means that either the X-sus, Y-sus or the Z-sus circuit boards isn't powering up the TV screen pixels....I doubt the power supply is faulty since you do get sound, unless u are a qualified TV technician you will need to have this repaired at a shop.

5) At the One Time Boot menu, press the <Down> arrow key to highlight Diagnostics, PSA+ or Enter ePSA, then press <Enter> to begin the PSA.

TV Flashing from Channel to Channel Non-Stop. Problem with the RCA F32689 32" TV My TV started jumping from channel to channel non-stop. There's no picture or sound - only channel numbers changing...

If still under guarantee take it back.
If not this sounds like a workshop job. If more than five years old (the TV, not you!) and you can afford it, junk this set and get a new one.
