What problem do you expect a bios update to solve? It won't change USB 1 into USB 2.

Bios updates can be very dangerous to do. Read about what the bios update is suppose to fix and if your problem isn't in that list then don't do it. It's not worth the risk.

Can you boot from usb on a sony vaio pcg-9s1l

You may need to "Flash" (Update) the Bios. To do this, go online and download the latest Bios update for your machine.

Unzip the downloaded file and place it on an empty Memory stick.

Insert the memory stick and restart your machine. The Bios update should install.

Wait for the process to finish and then see if you now have the option in Bios>Boot Options to Boot from USB.

Acer aspire turns on but nothing on the screen

Hi;

This happened to me twice ( got two net books).

You need to follow up these steps:
Updating the BIOS will require a USB flash drive to store the BIOS information on during the update. To perform the update to the BIOS:
1.Go herehttp://support.acer.com/us/en/default.aspx and download the latest BIOS for the netbook.
2.Extract the files from the downloaded zipped BIOS file.
3.In the Dos_Flash folder, rename the BIOS file from 3310.fd to ZG5IA32.FD, in all capital letters.
4.Copy ZG5IA32.FD and Flashit.exe to the USB flash drive
5.Ensure that the AC adapter is plugged in.
6.Insert the USB flash drive into a USB port.
7.Press and Hold down the Fn and the Esc keys together and press the power button.
8.When the unit's power light comes on wait a few seconds and release the Fn and Esc keys.
9.After the keys have been released the power light will start to blink.
10.During the BIOS update process the display will be blank.
11.Let the unit run and after approximately 1 to 7 minutes, the unit should reboot and the BIOS will be updated.
If the unit fails to reboot, or the BIOS was not updated sucessfully, try the steps again. If the unit continues to fail to reboot, the unit may need service.
Good Luck

First, try to find out if the issue is related with the hardware or software..

1. go to BIOS
2. press the alphabets which are not working (if you get beep the prob is related with software if not the prob is with hardware)

----------if its hardware related------

1. power drain by removing ac adapter, battery n other accesories connectd
2. go to BIOS n set it to BIOS default
3. check if its working in BIOS page which are not working in the desktop screen(if its not working, the prob is related with the hardware issue. it has to be given for service

--if the prob is related with the software--

1. power drain by removing ac adapter, battery n other accesories connectd
2. do system restore (all programs -> accessories -> system tools -> system restore)
3. try BIOS default
4. Update BIOS
5. Uninstall the drivers
6. restart
7.try system recovery

Upgrade phoenix bios 4.0

Go to the website of the company who makes your laptop or desktop. The majority of these sites have a portion of their site they devote to updates. Look in this section to locate your BIOS updates. When you find the file you need, download the BIOS to your computer's hard drive.
Go to Biosman to download and install the Phoenix BIOS flash utility software. This software allows you to read the data your BIOS file contains.
Flash your BIOS via USB storage device. Copy your update to the USB drive. Then, modify the boot order of your laptop or desktop to begin with your USB drive. Push "F2" or whichever key prompts you to enter your BIOS when you reboot your system.
Double-click the BIOS file you just downloaded to run the upgrade procedure.
Good Luck

Usb keyboard no longer recognised during boot process

Restore your PC before the BIOS update. BIOS updates are not required until & unless you face problems while running a software and it will prompt you for BIOS update. Do this update if its vital othewise do not intergere in the BIOS. I faced the same problem and after unistalling all drivers and again reload the original driver from MB VD slved it. Another thing in BIOS is USB setting at high-spped & full-speed. Try changing those settings and retry. Mine worked!...sodeep

Hi truckereric, The short answer no.
USB 2.0 is acheaved by two things.
1. You need to enter your system boards Bios. Find the USB settings. If USB 2.0 is listed here than your board will support it.

2. USB 2.0 is installed through windows updates.

3. If your board can't handle USB 2.0 maybe there is a Bios update. No, I checked your bios & there is no bios update to bring you up to USB 2.0.

AOpen's driver / software & bios support found at the link posted here. http://download.aopen.com.tw/Default.aspx
You'll need to fill in the three dropdown menues.
Motherboard
MX4BS
& Order by: LastUpdated
There are five pages of updates. If you change the Category dropdown menue to Bios. AOpen will show you the bios updates.
At least you have AOpends update link.
You can always add a PCI card that supports USB 2.0
