I have a 2000 CR 250, has always ran perfect and now will not start or fire. It has spark and is getting fuel to the carb(cleaned it spotless) air filter clean also. Fuel is fresh (use non-ethanol Supreme) and mix is 36:1 -what I have always ran. We pull started the bike to finally get it started- ran it for 3 hrs in the sand ballsout and ran great, but would not idle then died. Would not start again after multiple kicks. pull start it again and rode it back to camp just to die again and now will not even fire. Checked the reeds and they are not worn or frayed/warped. When I kick it over it will push air and sputter at exhaust pipe every 5-8th kick-kind of a light pop. Took the fresh plug out and did the ol thumb test while kicking it over and it has compression....not sure when last rebuild was. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated!!???

Try starting it with a brief spray of ether into the intake. If it runs briefly it indicates a fuel/carb problem.

If it doesn't run the problem could be spark related, poor induction due to crank seals or other air leaks or perhaps oil is settling in the crankcase and corrupting the incoming charge.

SOURCE: Wont start after 6 mos. I changed the spark plug, drained & added fresh gas, checked the fuel filter... Kicks over fine. Ran for 4 seconds, then it died. Always ran & started great before.

With a new plug and fresh gas it should start. Check to make sure there isn't a kill switch turned off or that the gas petcock from the tank to the carb is on.

How did you check the fuel filter? Disconnecting it from the fuel line that goes to the carb is the best way, making sure the gas is turned on under the tank. Bleed off a little gas into a can or something just to make sure the filter isn't plugged.

The last thing I'd do is take off the air filter and spray a little starting fluid in the carb. It may start and run several times if there is old gas in there somewhere. Remember the bowl on the carb is probably still full of old gas. After some fresh fuel reaches the plug it should start and continue to run.

(You might drain the bowl on the carb of ols gas before you go any further)

Good luck!

Cr 250 r honda dirt bike wont start

What did the spark plug look like when you first took it out? Was it black/wet/sooty or was it a light tan/gray color. If it was black/sooty, then I would guess you need a coil. I know you said it had a good blue spark when you checked it, but if you poured a little bit of gas in the cylinder and it still wouldn't fire that would be my first place to check. If it ran briefly after you poured a bit of gas in the cylinder and then died, then it's a fuel supply issue. Remove the line that goes from the gas tank to the carb and make sure you have gas at the carb. If you have gas, then I would remove the carburator and take it apart making sure all the jets and passageways are clear. Use carb cleaner and an air attachment and if you still can't get it out, use a small wire to clear things up.

Reassemble and it should run, otherwise report back and we can go to the next step.

Hyosung GT250R 2006 Miss Firing In One Cylinder

If everything that you checked truly is 'running perfectly' than you wouldn't be having these issues. Compression doesn't change - either it is good or it isn't. ignition either works or it doesn't most of the time - with the exception of it running til it gets hot then quits until it cools off. so that leave us with carbs. Obviously one of them isn't delivering fuel consistently or evenly or maybe your not giving them fuel all the time(water in the gas?). If you separated the carbs they are more than likely not 'sync'd anymore. That means that one is opening faster or later than the other so one cylinder is getting to do more work. Your best bet is to take it in and have it serviced so that the carbs can be checked over and re tuned so they are opening correctly.

Cranks but wont start

what i would try is always check for spark if u are getting spark then it must be a fuel problem. with the bad fuel we get now thats what i think is wrong pull the air box off and put gas in the carbs and see what it does if it runs then u no to pull the carbs off and clean them out then try if from there make sure u are getting gas to your carbs first that its not a plugged fuel line. well good luck hope this helps u

I have a 1991 honda cr 250 I cant get to start at fist gas ran right thru carb and out bottom i took carb apart and got the floats to stop sticking cleaned it out with carb cleaner put back together but...

try a new spark plug. if u fowl out a plug some time they will not fire under compression.2 strokes need. fuel, fire and air, very simple engines.it is possible crank seal are bad .that doesn't allow the engine to create vacuum in the crank case.thus fuel and air will not make it to combustion chamber.

2002 Hyosung GV250 running problems

Time for carb cleaning , blow the jets with compressed air, check the float level.
Check the spark plug and replace if neccessary.
Check the air filter too, and if you don't have an 'inline' filter for your fuel line, install one.
Basically yr bike's engine needs a tune up...check the valve clearance too!
Hope this helps!

I have a 6 HP Ariens whipper snipper on two 18" wheels, it is about 5 years old and ran perfectly since new with no maintenance, this year wont start. fires but will not run. changed the fuel and plug...

Check to see if fuel is leaving the tank, the internal screen might be plugged up. Check the rubber fuel lines and if provided the in line fuel filter for flow. Don't always trust carb cleaners and compressed air to clean a carb., you might have to use a steel wire from a wire brush to open the jets and passages.

Quad starts but won't stay on?

ALWAYS have a fire extinguisher at hand when working on carburetors.
Remove the water trap bowl at the bottom of the petcock, (gas valve). Is there any water or trash in the bowl? Drain a cup of gas from the tank. Is there any water or trash in the cup? Dump it, clean it and re-mount it, ( not all bikes have a water trap bowl ).

Drain the carburetor. There should be a screw on the lower side of the carb float bowl. Remove the screw then replace it after the fuel drains. Turn the gas back on and wait a minute for the carb to fill with gas. Install a new stock NGK spark plug and try to start the engine. If the bike doesn't start and run properly then shut off the gas and remove the carburetor from the engine.

Remove the float bowl and clean the entire carb with a spray carb cleaner from the auto parts store. Wear protective goggles to avoid getting spray in your eyes. Spray into all the little airways and fittings in the carb. Remove the idle screw and the air screw on the outside throat of the
carb and spray into the screw holes as well.
< < READ CLOSELY > >
Be sure to put these two screws back in the same hole they came out of. IMPORTANT > do not tighten these two adjusters down. Only screw these in until they LIGHTLY seat. Now turn each adjuster one and one half turns outward. Put the rest of the
carb back together, clean the air filter and install the carb. Let the float bowl fill then start the engine. This process should get you back on the road.

Please rate this solution. Thanks!
