Question about ASUS Eee PC 900 Notebook
Hi,I'm in HK now. Lat year I purchased an Asus EeePC 900 that originally ran on Linux but I told them to install WinXP on it first which they did. After a few use, it all suddenly went black w/ only an error message 'A disk read error occured. Press Ctrl-Alt-Del to restart'. I did what the msg said several times to no avail. I ran the recovery disc and it went back to Linux. However, I liked working with Windows so I brought it back to the shop and they fixed it but it took them more than a month to do so. Just a few days ago, the same problem occured with the same error message. It's totally unusable. I want to bring it back again to the shop but I'm afraid it'll take more than a month again before they fix it. Please can you help me? Is there anything I can do?
WEll i don't know how they fixed it before but if you get a disc read error then it's a bad hard drive. They may have gotten it to read again but it's still a bad hard drive and needs to be replaced and a new one put in. Don't know if they charged you for a bad hard drive before but it doesn't sound like they replaced it. Get a new drive and re-install your operating system and it should be fine.

Tips for a great answer:
Ubuntu 10.10 Latest Version
which can repair what windows has ruined and is unable to fix fix the problem
either burn it to a disk as an iso and install
you might have burn it to an iso first then boot from the cd rom to install ubuntu or you might just try to install ubuntu directly from the download if it does not install you might save it to a folder then burn it as an iso http://download.cnet.com/active-iso-burner/3000-2646_4-10602452.html
once your computer has corrected and installed ubuntu you will be able to reinstall windows
or keep ubuntu and install windows next door to it
you can have a dual boot computer with both windows and ubuntu linux you will need to partition your hard drive to do this
is a free partition program
hope this helps
