The memory I install to Armada wont boot

The memory I install to max at 512mb does not work.Laptop wont boot after.Triewd switching out memory sticks, then one ata a time still no boot. Will only boot with original; memeory laptop came with but that only totals 128 mb I need more memory so I can surf the net without freezing up.Also am running Windows ME on HD with all the updates.Never have a prob with OS and games run sweet.Just seems to freeze up during internet use. I have a similar problem. Both RAM slots are under the keyboard, and yes I'm aware of the system specs. The Armada E500 supports up to 512mb RAM with 2x256mb SDRAM chips. System boots perfectly with 2x128mb chips that came with the system. I purchased 2x256mb chips to upgrade the RAM. System will not boot or even power up with the 256mb chips in either together or one at a time. if I put one of the original 128mb chips in slot2 and one of the 256mb chips in slot1, it will power up and recognize the 384mb RAM, but once I acknowledge the change in RAM size, it starts to boot and gives the error message, "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: system32\DRIVERS\pci.sys" and tells me I can attempt to repair with my orig Windows CD which I don't have. Yet if I put the original chips back in, it boots normally after acknowledging that the memory total went back to 256mb. The only other difference in the 256mb chips I purchased is that they are PC133 instead of PC100. I know the new chips are compatible with the Armada E700, but don't want to work in my E500. I have 2x128mb chips and 1x32mb chip that a friend gave me that also work fine in the E500 either individually or in pairs.

You can try updating the bios to use the new memory or you may have to buy a different brand of memory to work in the computer. All memory is not made the same. Some work in one machine and not in another. You won't know till you try it.

You CAN NOT mix 100 and 133 chips! It is not good for the computer. They may let the computer work, but it won't recognize them properly.
If you still want to use the new chips, try and bypass the acklowledgment. Don't know if it is possible, but it may be the only way.
You should be using the correct chips.

You can go to: 4allmemory.com or cruicial.com to find out what sizes your computer is allowed.

Packard bell easynote M5284 - black screen after installing new RAM

Sounds like the memory is incompatible with the laptop. Remove the memory and install orginal memory and boot again to see if every works correctly.. If so then either a memory module is bad or motherboard wont support the new memory (size or type)

Upgraded ram 1gb wont boot hp 510 mobo 30C4

If you added another 512Mb RAM to increase the RAM to 1Gb then the new 512Mb memory stick could be incompatible with the original 512Mb or it could be faulty.
Use RAM that is same make and speed as the original RAM.
Remove both RAM and just insert the new 512Mb into your laptop and see if the laptop boots up, if not then the RAM could be faulty.

Laptop max RAM is 2GB. Had 512mb single stick. Won't accept upgra

the problem is the frequency ...you have to set into bios on the memory to read it on the lower one..so it will read both ....also if it is booting with both on but not showing into the windows properties..you have to reinstall the operating system to do that ...In-fact this is a standard procedure when you upgrade the Ram memory ..even if it reads it all ok ..you still have to reinstall...
You was kinda messy in explanations and I didnt quite understand what kinda memory you put in and it do not boot at all..but remember that this laptop will not read anything bigger than !G on one slot ..and ..if it reads them separately ...but when you put them together it is not even starting on reading devices..than you have to insert them and short the bios to reset all to the factory defaults with the memory in ...in that moment the bios settings will force to the lowest frequency ..in this case the one from the 512 unit ..

Added more ram but it's not working Compaq E500

what did you mean not working ?? didnt see the new Ram memory ?/ or didnt boot at all ....anyway ...when adding new ram memory ..first thing you do is to remove the Bios battery for to let bios on defaults and let it be able to read the new added unit ....second ...be sure the new added ram is compatible and in the same frequency ,then remove the battery like I said and in the last ...reinstall the operating system ....always look at the boot to see if the ram memory that is displayed is the same value with the one you know that actually is installed on the slots...it should work if this was just an option to make it faster ...and not a wild guess cause it use to have issues and didnt boot before...

Can't upgrade memory

According to the user manual for your laptop, it can only support pc-100 memory. If your going to upgrade your memory just make sure you use pc-100 and also the max amount of memory is 256mb in each slot so you would be maxed out at 512MB.

You can verify the info from this link from Dell:

The memory I install to Armada wont boot

Check the specs of the computer. The model you has two memory slots. One on the bottom of the notebook. One under the keyboard. Each equal 64 mb thus 128 mb. You need to replace both with sdram 256 mb sticks not one 512.

Can't upgrade memory past 1gb when max is 2gb

I have the same issue with my laptop. I have not been able to get the laptop to accept 2gb of memory yet, but I did find something that works. If you put your 512mb memory that works in the laptop and then add a 1gb stick in the second slot it works. Or at least it did for me. It's better than nothing. I am still trying to figure out how to get it up to the 2gb max. Will add a solution if I figure it out.

I have a Satellite 2405-S221 and I was wondering if the max memory i can install is 512K, is there a way to update the bios, or ANYTHING to increase that amount to at least 1 gig??

Toshiba Satellite 2405-S221 Laptop takes the PC2100 DDR SDRAM SODIMMs Memory Type, and comes installed with 256 MB (removable) of Memory. You can upgrade your Toshiba Satellite 2405-S221 Laptop to up to a maximum of 512 MB Memory, the system has 2 sockets to install Memory, already with 256 MB (removable) standard Memory installed.

In short.... yeah, 512k is the max.

Doesn't appear to a bios limitation. It is a hardware issue that is limiting the amount.

IBM ThinkPad T40 2GB Max RAM

The T40 has two ram slots, you can put a 1g chip in each totaling 2g. If the chip will remove, then it is changeable. Vista needs a minimum of 256 to run, so, when you change BOTH chips to equal 2g it will probably read 1.744g, or it may read the full 2g. If it only reads 1g, then the second slot under keyboard may have malfunctioned. It could also be that the 256 chip is bad and your really only running 512 now. With all that said, in order to achieve 2g, you will need to put a 1g chip in each slot.

Compaq M700 Ram Upgrade the second

i can find no spec on this but,if your notebook can take upt 576MB of memory, i would expect 2 x 256MB to be the max, as installing 1 x 512MB would be doubling the capacity allowed by one module slot.
