You just switch off the power while the "Checking NVRAM" is
dispalyed and the next time you boot, the BIOS is reset.
The easiest way to test it, is to first disable the "Full screen
logo" in
"Boot settings configuration" and then do the test. If the BIOS is
reset,
the Full screen logo is displayed at boot time.

I would open it up, remove the hard drive and memory. Then see if you can get into the BIOS. Then put back the memory and try again.. Do you hear any beeps at startup?
When the asus logo comes up press F2 that should take you in the bios screen, check bottom left of logo for the F key number that is assigned for bios to be sure.
Bios is not operating properly. Either it is corrupted or you have a bad peripheral causing issues. Disconnect all you can, (hard drive, optical disk, etc) and then see if it still freezes on boot up. If you have 2 memory sticks disconnect one and try again till you check out both chips. If all disconnects do not change anything then my original comment re bad bios stands.
Please remove any external devices (if connected) to your laptop Remove the power adapter cable Remove the battery Push and hold the power button for 10 seconds, this will remove unwanted charge from the laptop electronics. Then connect the power adapter cable alone and switch the laptop on and check if it is working fine. If not remove the power adapter and connect the battery alone and try if it works fine. If it still does not then we have to remove the other components that are detachable from the laptop like
1. CD / DVD drive 2. Hard drive 3. Memory modules (if you have 2 remove one) 4. PC cards
even after checking with all the above options, if the computer is freezing we can definitely confirm a core hardware issue.
Is this in the logo for the bios or is it in the operating system? If it is in the bios, then you have to read your helps in *********** board manual. These can be downloaded on the Internet in pdf files.
If it is in the operating system... Go to your operating system helps, and you can also find help for such on the Internet. The various operating systems are not all the same. Most will have a small file or script you can edit.
Same problem here with my wife's Asus laptop. Called Asus and they said to unplug charger, remove the battery in the back, hold down the power button for 10 seconds. Then, replace battery, then charger, then press the power button and wait for startup. First time it got stuck at the windows loading bar screen for like 5 min. which is abnormal. Did a hard power down (press and hold power button til it shuts off) then restarted again. That time it worked and all is well so far. Could have been due to a static charge as she was on our couch with our dog backing up movies so charge might have entered through the CD/DVD drive opening. (?) Not sure, but if you are sitting on a static-prone couch with your laptop its probably best to sit on top of a bounce sheet.
