Question about Canon PowerShot A640 Digital Camera

LCD screen is very dark, Pictures taken are underexposed

I have had this camera for about 2 years, no problems until about a month ago. When I noticed the images on the LCD screen where very dark and underexposed. Also when viewing the pictures the same issue. Now at times the screen will be completely dark and no image will show after taking picture. I have changed the batteries, CF card no change. When looking at the histogram on the camera it shows the photos are under exposed. I took it to Pictureline and was told that this was just typical of this type of camera, but I think if it was typical it would have been happening all along. Just need to know how to fix or if I should send it into Cannon to be fixed. I am having the same issue. Did you ever find the solution? When in auto mode, if I take a photo in a non bright room the image comes out blue/black. When I take a photo in a well lit room it is fine. The flash is working fine. It just happened from one photo to the next - weird.

I have started noticing exact same problem on my 2 year old S3 IS since about couple of months ago... By the way, Canon CCD advisory notice does not apply to S3 (not even S2, it ended with S1). I am hearing a lot about IRIS/Shutter getting stuck completely on Canon S-series cameras. I am wondering if this is a variant of that problem, where it is stuck but is partially open, which means images will be underexposed in all conditions except when in brightly lit conditions.

SOURCE: LCD screen is very dark, Pictures taken are underexposed

If the pictures show up normal on the computer then the back light for the LCD is going bad.

When my OM-D 10 is in "P" mode the flash fires but the pictures are very, very dark, obviously underexposed. What's wrong?

"P" mode in most digital cameras is, "Program", meaning that it's really kind of manual. Attempting to shoot flash in this mode is likely to be difficult. Suggest "A", or "Automatic" mode.

Sony cybershot t300 lcd screen remains dark when switched on

Hi,
Your camera must be experiencing these symptoms due to a faulty CCD, and not due to other problems. If the problem is due to your dropping the camera, you might be out of luck.
If you have not dropped your camera and still facing this problem, then contact service people to replace the CCD imager in your camera .

Hope this helps .

My screen has always been fine up until a few months ago when it suddenly went very blurry and out of focus. Please help!

Please check the photos taken by the camera on the PC and if they are seen to be good then the camera optics are fgood specially the CCD.
If so the LCD is faulty and you might need to replace.
however if the pictures taken are HAZY then the CCD is defective .Might need to estimate the cost of a new one.

My display screen on the back of the camera is really dark and I am unable to view pictures or even see any menu commands. Is there anything I can do about this? I have had this camera a good 6 years and...

Not an unusual problem for this camera (I have one). You can find the LCD screens on Ebay for around $20. If you Google how to replace the LCD screen on YouTube, you can find a video of how to do it. It's not hard. :)

Dsc-t1 Pictures taken inside are dark. Flash is working but red light by reset button flashes when taking pictures and I haven't noticed that before.

There may be the issue with the CCD (image sensor device) of the Camera.

Refer this article to confirm this.

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/news-item.pl?mdl=DSCT1&news_id=161

Check whether the LCD screen of the Camera looks similar as given on the page.

If yes, click on the "Yes" button at the end of the page to create an onlineRepair Request for sending the Camera to the Sony Factory ServiceCenter.

Black pictures when using flash

The black images with flash mean that the Iris mechanism in the lens is not working properly, and that needs a professional camera repair service.

Lcd problems

Hey amb151,
From how you describe the problem it sounds like you probably do have a connection problem, but the only way to really know is to have the camera looked at by an authorized service technician such as bringing the camera to a Geek Squad® precinct in a Best Buy™ store. If the camera was purchased less than a year ago the repair would likely be free of charge. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan
