Question about IBM ThinkPad 600X Notebook
To whom it may concern: How are you? This is Daniel. I have an IBM Thinkpad 600X notebook. Its trackpoint already doesn't work for a long time. I want to disable it. According to IBM manual, holding down F1 and turn on the computer, then modify its BIOS. But I tried serval times. The screen always shows me "ERROR CODE 8611" at first, and then I hit the "RESTART" button, and hit F1, the computer automatically enters into Windows XP system. I never see the BIOS menu. Could you give me a favor to tell me how to enter into the BIOS menu? I am looking forward to your help. Please feel free to contact me at email@example.com. Have a nice day. With best regards, Daniel. PS: Another guy told me the following method. But it doesn't work. Hold down F1+turn on computer -->Hit "RESTART" button --> when the screen shows "8611+notok+IBM book", Hit F5 or F8, you can go into BIOS menu.
Its something to do with the trackpoint, possibly the cable has become loose.
* If an emergency power down is made by switching the system off during or while an application is open, then immediately switching the system on creates a 8611 error.
* Repeatedly turning power off and back on without properly shutting down or allowing the system to shut itself down.
Wait at least 6 seconds or longer after shutting down the system or before restarting to correct the 8611 error.
See if that gets rid of the error, if not it could be a loose cable to the trackpoint.
