Question about IBM ThinkPad 600X Notebook

How to enter into BIOS when trackpoint was broken.

To whom it may concern: How are you? This is Daniel. I have an IBM Thinkpad 600X notebook. Its trackpoint already doesn't work for a long time. I want to disable it. According to IBM manual, holding down F1 and turn on the computer, then modify its BIOS. But I tried serval times. The screen always shows me "ERROR CODE 8611" at first, and then I hit the "RESTART" button, and hit F1, the computer automatically enters into Windows XP system. I never see the BIOS menu. Could you give me a favor to tell me how to enter into the BIOS menu? I am looking forward to your help. Please feel free to contact me at pan.daniel@yahoo.com. Have a nice day. With best regards, Daniel. PS: Another guy told me the following method. But it doesn't work. Hold down F1+turn on computer -->Hit "RESTART" button --> when the screen shows "8611+notok+IBM book", Hit F5 or F8, you can go into BIOS menu.

    Hi, my friend:

Many thanks for your help. Your suggestions are an old solution which was posted in the internet for a long time. Actually, I tried serval times. But it still doesn't work. Do you know whether there has another HOT KEY to wake up its BIOS or not? Thanks again. Daniel.

Hi there.
Its something to do with the trackpoint, possibly the cable has become loose.
* If an emergency power down is made by switching the system off during or while an application is open, then immediately switching the system on creates a 8611 error.
* Repeatedly turning power off and back on without properly shutting down or allowing the system to shut itself down.

Solution
Wait at least 6 seconds or longer after shutting down the system or before restarting to correct the 8611 error.
See if that gets rid of the error, if not it could be a loose cable to the trackpoint.

Good luck

Which operating system supports IBM thinkpad 600x

All versions of windows except Vista and Windows 7.
You may find it difficult to purchase Windows version up and including XP.
You may need to install more RAM and a a 6 to 10 Gb hard drive.
The smallest hard drive available is approx 100Gb but the BIOS in the Thinkpad won't support a hard drive this large.

Ibm thinkpad 600x brightness control

There is no otherway. becase the slides sends direct signal to inverter for adjusting brightness. You can adjust brightness the
other way ,through graphic cards property, but that is only adjustment for the color and if you do make it bright, you'll be loosing the vivid color..not so natural.
takecare.
