Lite on lvc 9016g will not prepare dvds or record

Goes through the preparing dvd record process, then says invalid disc SOMETIMES, then the same disc will process the next time, record as normal, and then for no reason goes back to "invalid disc" read out.

I'm wasting alot of discs with this touchy SOB!!

The LVC-9016G (39207006) was operating properly, and then stopped. I have tried every possible kind of disk, and it won't even play a pre-recorded disk. The fan on the back does not operate, and I do not use this unit for off-air or cable I use it only to record from tape. I am a retired network camerman, and have many programs to record from VHS to Disk.

Joe Winters jaybat@rcn.com 415-821-9552 Would like to know if a factory repair is possible.

  • Anonymous Apr 04, 2008

I bought my unit as a sealed factory refurb off of ebay. It failed to prepare or recognize any new DVD I put in it, to record. It did however, allow me to record onto a DVD that someone gave me with something else already recorded onto it, but never a new one. I tried Maxell, TDK, Fugi, Memorex, Imation and Verbatim. I spent more on DVDs than I did the unit itself. After reading about a laser cleaning solution on here, I remembered I had one made by Phillips. It's a regular looking disc with a few small brushes on the bottom of it. After running it one time, it recognized all of the DVDs that it had previously deemed an "invalid disc" and failed to prepare. I went from hating this machine to loving it in a matter of minutes. Sorry to post a problem with the solution, I'm unfamiliar to this territory. I hope this helps someone out,

I have the same problem. Invalid Disc reading and altho I have already recorded a few times with this unit, it no longer reads the same disc's that I previously used but it won't read the ones I've already recorded to play them back. It does recognize and play professional discs and everything else works. I finally decided to contact Liteon since this machine has been used very little and is like new.

    My problem is identical.

I wonder if Lite-on offered any solution.

Please include me in your info. I tried a Memorex lenz cleaner, and it is still not working properly. INVALID disc. It doesn't like the 16x, and the 8x and under are getting harder to find. Could that be an issue too?

I had a problem with a Lite-On that had been working fine then stopped reading any disc--sometimes it would go through the motions of recording if a disc was in and a timed recording was due to start. After recording it would not read the disc. I tried a DVD/CD lens cleaner but it didn't appear to even spin up. A google search led me to find the a dirty laser would cause this. I removed the cover and with a clean lint free cloth I used rubbing alcohol to clean it and it has worked fine since. While I had the cover off I took the unit to my garage and used an air compressor to blow all the dust out of the unit and cleaned the laser again just in case. That was about 6 weeks ago and it works fine. My unit has a cooling fan that I think contributed to the dust problem.

I have solved my problem with the LVC-9016G. I used OptiDisc
Laser Lens Cleaner for dvd Players. Both my units work fine now, with several different type of Discs. Hope this helps.

The LVC-9061G should not require an updated driver unless you are recording off-Air or Cable signals from a tuner. I do not do that, Iuse the device just to record VHS tapes to disk if I want to record from cable I use an LVW-1101/1105 for recording from a cable signal.

Keep getting "Fail" on blank discs

The LVW-5005 DVD Recorder came with a list of recommended brands for each type of disc, and they are all different in all categories. Some brands are recommended for CDs, some for DVDs, etc. They are not the same in any catagory. Most of the ones I bought were not on the list, because I couldn't find those listed anywhere in my neighborhood here in California. Some worked before, but are not working well now. Some have never worked, and some are failing intermittently.

The INVALID DISC message comes up on both units often, but when it comes up on the LVW-5005 unit the DISC eject feature will not eject. The open close door stays shut and says it is open, but sticks and keeps trying to reread the disc. You actually have to tip the machine down to let gravity help, and then turn it on and off and on and off and it finally opens and drops out the invalid disc.

The LVC-9016G unit says "change disc", or gets stuck on "Preparing". Sometimes it prepares, and then I can actually record, but when I try to load it later..... FAIL! This too is INTERMITTENT. GOD I HATE THAT WORD!!!!

I am not good a taking machines apart, and I have a MAC system 10.5 computer, and the firmware update seems to be geared to the WINDOWS PC. HELP?? Is there anything I can do.

Also IS THERE A LIST OF PREFERRED BRANDS of the media for the LVC-9016G model. It may be the same as the list for the LVW-5005 unit, except the that unit is supposed to record on CDs as well. NOT SURE> None are working consistantly.

The other idea that I had is that the newer DVD-R and DVD-RW or the DVD+R and DVD+RW discs have a heavier technology and these older burners (2 years makes it older, I guess....) and seem to no longer like them.

The 6 hour SLP I always set them to record on in the past, may no longer be valid. The 4x, 8X 16X etc. may not work either. Since I don't understand what that means, and we only have access to what is available to buy, I am at a loss there too. I am logical, but not technically educated in this technology. I come at this with psychology, not technology... :-)

I have the LVC-9016G for 2 years, and the other bought at COSTCO only a year ago. Is $300 worth of equipment already obsolete?

I have not hacked or touched anything. I may need to buy another lense cleaning disc. I have a memorex one, but when I put that in it said INVALID DISC, and will not work either. Won't read or spin.

I am frustrated...http://club.cdfreaks.com/images/smilies/6/eek.gif.

Candy user_offline.gif this can be due to invalid media........all types will not burn in this unit........good success....meder's tv service

Invalid disc reading

I find that I get the Invalid disk message most likely when I use a DVD-R disk. So now I use only DVD+R for this machine. I have also read somewhere that the problem could be solved by using a Laser Lens Cleaner Cleaning disk.

DVD burner will not burn or finalize

Hi,
There are three things you can do that will eventually give you a working solution. Depending on the level of problem. Start with 1 progress to 3 until it works.
1. Use a cleaning disc. (one that use an alcohol based liquid)
2. If the cleaning disc does not solve it, you can use an ear bud, with some iso-propyl alcohol to clean the DVD lens on the drive directly. (you have to open the player and the drive)
3. The guaranteed working solution is to replace the DVD drive inside the player. This is quite a simple process, as most players use a standard IDE DVD-ROM or DVD writer.
You simply remove the face plate, (apply power to the drive, and press eject first) the tray will open. Unclip the tray face, and then with the tray open you can unclip the plastic face plate too.
Remove the old drive, and fit the new drive by reversing the removal procedure.
Once everything is assembled you should be able to watch DVD's again. If you can't find a cheap DVD drive locally, try ebay.
I have done this on over 50 players for my clients in the past. I use LG DVD roms and DVD writers for the DVD recorders, irrespective of brand.
Let me know how it goes.

I don't know if you have the manual for your unit. I found it on the Lite-On Tiwain site. I downloaded it and put it in a zip file and uploaded to a free download site. Here is the link:

http://rapidshare.com/files/119142105/LVC-9016___G9017GDL_Manual_Englsih.zip

The file contains the manual in pdf format. If you don't already have Adobe Acrobat Reader, google it and download it and install it. Good Luck.

LiteOn LVC - 9016G dvd recorder Problem.

throw it in the trash- I got 1 from costco, liked it so much, bought another a week later. First one started giving me the "invalid" msg, 2nd one did the same 1 wk later, so I guess they're programmed to do so after so many hours after being plugged in. Too bad, cuz it was the easiest to use of 5 previous models I tried. Their easyguide onscreen menu was the greatest, plus the status of time, pause & recording indicator, which you could turn on or off as needed, were very useful.
A real shame to have to throw in the trash. Won't ever buy another thing from them.
