Question about Canon EOS Rebel XSi Digital Camera

1 Answer

How can I download pictures that were already downloaded from my Canon EOS XSI? My husband used the wrong cord and all were distorted so I erased the pictures off the computer. I just need to download it again but the camera is showing no new pictures to download and won't download the pictures I need.

On most DSLR cameras, you have the option to delete all photos after uploading them to your computer. Unfortunately, that is a default choice. Chances are that was selected and thus the photos were erased from your memory card. In the future, deselected that option and you will retain the images on your camera.

CANON EOS Rebel XSI is not being seen by EOS Utility. I can't update firmware, I can't download pictures, nothing. It doesn't see that it is hooked up. I have tried updating the EOS Utility...

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as iPhoto, Windows Photo Gallery, or ZoomBrowser.

I have an EOS Canon Rebel XSi. Every time I turn it on, error 99 pops up.

Error 99 is Canon's depository for electrical connection problems and a host of other electrical orientated issues. Take a new pencil eraser and gently clean the contacts on the lens (gold) more a polish then a scrub and also do the same with the electric connections on the camera body again more a polish then a scrub. Make sure that no eraser dust has entered the camera body and if so clean it out by using a puffer with the camera lens mount facing downward, that way the partials will fall out not in. Also while you have the eraser handy clean both the contacts on your battery and inside the battery compartment. Another thing is to download your pictures from the memory card onto your computer and format the memory card in the camera. If all that fails then go to the Canon web site and download the updates to your camera's firmware.

What I full expect though is that the camera body to lens connections have become dirty and just need a little attention.

Hope this works for you

Hi, I see the pictures I took with my Canon XSi but when I put the memory card in the computer (Dell) the pictures don't appear and when i return the card to the camara it says it needs to be formatted....

Yes...when you pulled out your card from the computer, you didn't use the "safely remove hardware" icon at the bottom right of your screen. Now your camera doesn't recognize the card and wants you to format it. If you do, it will be completely erased. Get yourself a separate card reader and use it to download your pics. When you plug it in, if it doesn't appear on the screen, open, "my computer"...it will be listed as a removable drive. That's probably where they were in the first place when you couldn't find them.

Try to change connection type to PC on camera menu. Maybe you have a print/ppt connection set.
