Hi the 8406 was common for the intermediat gear to go have you yet stripped the gear box?
Quick test wear gloves to do this!
Turn on the drill if the chuck does not turn spin the chuck with a gloved hand TAKE CARE!! if the chuck catches grip one of the gears are gone.
Hope this helps let me know. Sean

My drill wont spin it just smokes and buzzes

Your brushes in the motor are shot. Or the drill got wet and the bearings are seizing up.

This is a light weight cordless screw driver, so it all depends on what material you are trying to drill. It will probably drill small holes in wood and possibly in softer metals. It is made for light duty work, so again, it depends on what the material is, so if you are reffering to wall board such plaster board or sheet rock, it will drill smaller diameter holes.

I have drilled a 1 inch hole in my concrete basement wall. I cannot release the bit from the drill. The chuck won't turn by hand to release the bit.

Good Afternoon, Ladooudep55:

I hope you have got your bit back, but if not, remount the drill chuch onto the bit, and drill in forward without pushing the bit. If it still won't move, You can gently wobble the drill to enlarge the hole and retrieve the bit.

The other method is alternating light hammer taps with compressed air. It will make lots of grit dust.

If the hole around the bit is wet, you may have drilled into an iron pipe, if it smells it was the sewer drain. You will have to decide if you want to replace the pipe section or run an epoxy patch once you have retrieved the bit.

Hi. I bought a Makita cordless drill, model 8391D. Whilst drilling a pilot masonry hole it suddenly stopped. The battery had only just started to slow so I changed it anyway to a fully charged one and the...

I would try changing the brushes and use compressed air I would blow out all the dust and lint I could from around motor.
If this does not help I would return for guarntee replacement. Thank you.

The keyless chuck on my Makita HP2071F Drill (mains supply) is damaged. How do I replace it?

Open the chuck up fully, and in the bottom there is a reverse threaded lock screw that needs to be removed. (drill it out if you have to, it can be really hard to retrieve). Insert an allen key into the jaws of the chuck and hit the handle with a hammer to turn the hole chuck anti clockwise, firmly and quickly. Replacement is reverse but not so dramatic. Sometimes the chuck is damaged in such a way that it will not grip an (large) allen key sufficiently. You can then peel of all plastic parts of the chuck to expose the core. From here you can weld a metal pice to the chuck in place of an allen key. Take care not to damage the threaded axle from the gear.

good luck
