The Rainbow D4, D4C and SE all are the same vacuum base, only changes were made to the nozzle. As long as the nozzle cord on your D4 has 2 prongs, not 3 prongs you can use the D4 nozzle that looks like This or the SE PE (SE Performance) Nozzle that looks This
Hi! There are a few reasons why your brushes may not be spinning. Try these simple steps below.
1. Your brush roll may be clogged. Unplug the cleaner and remove any debris from brush roll.
2. Make sure the brush roll setting is turned on. The brush roll on/off switch is located on the handle of the hose.
3. Reset the brushes. The brush roll reset button is located on the back of the nozzle on the right side.
Hope this helps! If you still have questions feel free to reach out to us here on Fixya, Facebook.com/dirtdevil or Twitter @DirtDevil.
All SE series vacuums have a built in thermal and load fuse on the motor, and if it blew, it has to be replaced, or wired directly, with out it on there.
Motor brushes are usually the source of a non working Rainbow D4 and SE and all model Rainbow vacuums and when they burn out, they usually take the motor armature with them, from excessive heat and flare electrical arking to the armature.
It is probably the thermal and load fuse, that is your problem, if you did not smell any electric burning type of smell, before it quit. It could be the power switch, but not as likely as the fuse.
If you have any more questions let me know. I am a Rainbow seller, and a Rainbow expert also.
First, check the red reset button on the power nozzle head. - if it's popped out, push it in. Also, if you have a switch on the handle, make sure you're pressing it while you're vacuuming. if those obvious solutions are already remedied, you may need to check the power outlet on the canister for voltage with a voltmeter while the vacuum is running, and then check your power hose and wand for continuity (checking for a broken wire) while the hose is disconnected from the canister. If all this checks out and the power nozzle still doesn't power on, you may have a bad motor in the power nozzle. If you're good at taking things apart, then it's a simple fix to replace the power nozzle motor.
If you have tried to press the red button on the top of power nozzle and it is still not working, try opening the bottom to see about loose wire, check receptacle that plugs into rainbow, if neither of those are the problem than it may be you need a new motor. Should not really be an arm and a leg.
The brush is motor/belt driven so you probably either broke the belt or it shifted off the motor or brush shaft. I suggest you unplug it,flip it over and look for screws that hold the baseplate together.. remove those screws and seperate the baseplate to gain access to the brush and motor head. Once open, it should be fairly obvious what the problem is.. a broken belt, a belt that has shifted or the brush won't spin freely due to an obstruction. Hope this helps..

If the motor is NOT running - press the red button on the nozzle (assuming you have the model with the button on the nozzle) If it stops working as soon as you release the button - you need a new circuit breaker. If Motor in the nozzle works but brush does not spin - you have to replace the belt.
http://geeksquad.fixya.com/ThreadView.aspx?prdid=19674&thid=493359 No power in power nozzle Posted by pjs5451 on Apr 06, 2008 Vacuumed with power nozzle one day working fine took attachment off to use crevice tool reattached power nozzle and no power whatsoever. Hello, I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Rainbow E Series Canister Wet/Dry Vacuum. The Rainbow Power Nozzle does have a reset button on the newer model on the top of the power nozzle, just push it and it should reset, or check all your pigtail connections to make sure they are connection and the cord leading to the actual Rainbow Vacuum itself. Out in left field might be that the power nozzle motor could be shorting out or not working or dead and might be in need of replacement. Check the cord for any frays or bad connections.
