Question about Washing Machines

Hi, My Washer stopped working,I would press the start button to start washing and nothing happened. I contacted the folks at www.RepairClinic.com and I ordered the main controller board and the motor speed control board, I replaced them and now when I press the START button I hear the clicks for the door lock, and several relays inside clicking but the washer doesn't do anything, it does not activate the water fill up and it never gets to spin... what could it be ? some sensor or relay or switch telling the computer not to do anything ?

yes thanks, the valves are turned on and good water pressure is ocming out of them.
I don't think this is related to the water pump pe say as for example when I set the cycle to only SPIN, again, press the start button and I hear the clicks of the relays inside but the drum (motor) never starts spinning. Also, how a bad motor woudl affect the water pump ? I measuered the volatage coming into the motor when pressing START on SPIN cycle and it is 110 VAC for a few seconds then it drops after hearing a relay click, is like the computer checks for something and it send sthe right signals at first but then it stops everytrhing.

yes, what you are saying makes sense excet that I called Sears the authoized service representatvie fro Kenmore appliances and after checking a couple of meaningless things the tech that came overstated they can't fix this problem so i took it on my own because I know it can be fixed. I am a computer engineer and I am familiar with electronic boards and microcontroller components and I am extremely frsutrated at all this.... any otehr tips ?

where do I find the water level switch ? or what does it look like ?

  • Luis Perez

the thing is that if I place the cycle for SPIN only where no water level is involved the washer does the same thing, clicks of relays going on and off and nothing...

If you are seeing voltage at the motor but it is not starting then the motor or the starting relay on the motor has failed.  A motor starting relay will close a contact that keeps the motor running after the initial signal is sent.  You said however that the washer is not filling up.  The start signal should open the fill valve to admit water and does not rely on the pump to fill.  The water level switch should tell the motor to start when the water level has reached the selected amount.  Check the valve and water level switch first.  If they are OK then the motor or motor relay are suspect.

I would need a manufacturer's name and model number to find a parts diagram for a specific place to look on your washer.   Usually the water level switch is outside the tub/drum.  Since you talked about a door lock I am assuming you have a front loading washer.  The switch will be at the bottom or side of the tub.  you have to  look underneath or remove a side, front, or back panel to see it.  It will look like a tube running up the side of the tub with a switch on it or like a diaphragm with a rubber tube running to the switch.

If not spin when water is not required then the motor or motor relay has failed.

Yes it is one or more sensors which are not being recognized by the replaced control panel. Think of it as if its brand new and configure/set all the settings otherwise it will have to be connected to a PC at the Authorized service center and the PC there will set it properly. Even if one sensor does not respond as expected, the machine simply won't start..........sodeep

PS: If you have the expertise then you can configure it yourself but I would not recommend that unless you are sure of what u are doing. The manufacturer will bear no responsibility if handled by anyone other that their trained technician. So please proceed accordingly.

It's worth checking the door lock sensor as i had a similar problem relays clicking ect.. and found the sensor wasn't registering that the door was shut. before trying to replace it give the door a good push after the relay click. Hope this helps

My washer ( Whirlpool Cabrio M: WTW6500WW) will not start, cancel, rinse nothing! I can't even properly diagnose it because every button I press gives me an error chirp?

it sounds like you have a bad touch pad,try unplugging the machine for a few minutes to see if it resets the board,i would call the factory on this, they've been having problems with this and they might give you the part for free but you'll have to pay for the labor.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. It seems you have to replace the control board for your washer. Please do revert with the manufacturers name and model no# for your washer for further assistance.

Thanks Rylee
