Question about Samsung SyncMaster 323T 32 in. HD-Ready LCD Television

1 Answer

Samsung 323T (CK32BSNB) has no backlight on top half of display

Samsung 323T LCD Monitor black light problem.
There's no backlight on the top half of the display. Did some voltage checks and found that one of the 4 top inverters (The one on the very top) had popped its fuse. Check the FETS/Transistor and found them to be shorted. Has anybody seen this problem? Would this cause all of the top inverters to shout down? Does anybody have a part number for the inverter board?

The back lights may be not working. Easy way to check this is shine a flashlight on the screen with the TV on. If you can see a dim picture then the light circuit board has the problem. If there is no picture then the T con board is faulty. Parts can be had online from:

Samsung monitor 2232bw plus backlight fade in black backgrounds scenes

Most common failures in these LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply C242 470uF 10V, C241 & C242 1000uF 16V, C261 & C319 680uF 35V failed as indicated in the attached picture, replace them at once.

If the power supply board is working then it is back light problem, first do a flash light test. If you can see the image in the flash light test, follow the steps how to test back light voltages: https://how-to-repair.org/repair/lg-tv-repair-manual-pdf/lg-led-tv-no-backlights-32ln5300-32ln5310-32ln5700-voltage-test-troub/2pyuXwNkBMA.html and follow the steps how to repair back light LEDs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_poWTEihIJU Fix Led Backlights for TV or Monitor Lg Led Tv No Backlights 32ln5300 32ln5310 32ln5700 Voltage Test Troub Lg... I have a hp laptop. was on line and screen went black. and will not show again. it strats up sounds but black screen.what do i do

1) Do you have a VGA monitor that you can use for an external monitor?
{VGA monitor is also referred to as a CRT monitor. Looks like a small TV}

The back of the laptop, or side, has a VGA port. The VGA monitor is plugged into it.
{Laptop off}
Then the VGA monitor is turned on, and allowed to 'come to life'.

Now turn on the laptop. Press the Fn key down on the keyboard, and hold it down.
Now press the Monitor toggle over key.
Since you did not state the HP laptop Model Name, and Model Number, I can only give you generic guidance on this.

The monitor toggle over key has a monitor screen symbol on it. It will be one of the F keys.

(It's an External Monitor toggle key.
Press it one time and the display toggles over to an external monitor.
Press it again, and both the laptop LCD screen, and the external monitor have a display on them.
Press it once more, and the display goes back to the laptop's LCD screen )

If display shows up on the external monitor, you have a problem with the display of the laptop.

Primer:
An LCD screen cannot produce enough light by itself. It needs an additional light source.
A Backlight is used as an additional light source.

A Backlight is a CCFL.
Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp {Bulb}
Similar to the fluorescent lighting used in homes and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

{Average Backlight is 3 to 5 inches long, and half the diameter of a No.2 pencil.
The Backlight is located on one edge of the LCD screen}

An Inverter is used to provide power for the LCD screen, and the Backlight.

90 percent of the time the problem is the Inverter.

Inverters are relatively cheap, and if I knew the Model Name, and Model Number of your HP laptop, I could give you a link to HP Support where you could download the Service Manual for free.

This way you would have a manual to show, and detail how to replace the Inverter, and I could guide you.

I could also give links for your perusal for Inverters.

There is one more thing however.

HP Pavilion DV2000, DV6000, and DV9000 series laptops, have a graphics chip overheating problem.
The laptop comes on, the blue indicator LED lights light up, but the LCD screen is black.

This video explains why, shows a solution to fixing the problem, and details out a lot more than I am privileged to state here,

Samsung syncmaster 226BW no backlight

Look for any bulging capacitors, instead of a flat top they will look "pregnant".

If you see any of those then replace them with capacitors of the same UF rating and the voltage needs to be either the same or higher.

If you dont see any bulging capacitors or burnt parts, then its got be the LCD at that point thats not staying on and the cost to replace the LCD is as much if not more then to just get another monitor.

Lower half blank

1 (the lower one) of the 2 backlights is broken and needs replacing. If your warranty has expired it's quite expensive to get it replaced and you would be better of buying a new one.

Color changes

1) The display settings on the monitor have changed. Check and/or adapt the settings using the buttons on the monitor. You might wanna try 'reset to default/factory settings'.

2) The computer display settings have changed. Check and/or adapt the settings on the computer, especially scan the 'advanced' menus for keywords like 'contrast', 'brightness', 'gamma'. Or hook up another computer to rule it out for sure.
3) The inverter in the monitor is broken. This is not uncommon and mostly due to filter caps gone bad (capacitors with a bulging on top).
4) One of the backlights in the monitor is broken. This would result in parts/half the screen being much dimmer than the others/half.

LCD Monitors wear in light intensity over time, but when it happened suddenly and very noticeable (and you doublechecked case 1 and 2), it's probably the inverter, as it matches your description (although usually in the end you're only left with a black 'light').

Hopefully you still have warranty so you can get it fixed. If not, a complete inverter replacement can be quite expensive and you're better of buying a new monitor. But when it's only faulty caps, which is not unlikely, it's an easy and quick fix for any electrotechnician, replacement caps are just a couple of bucks. You could have someone or some local repairshop check it out first if you like, could be a cheap fix ...

Screen Half darker

It sounds like your backlight isn't working properly. LCD screens have backlights that illuminate the colors produced upon their surfaces, so that you can easily see the screen without an external light source. In your case, it sounds like your backlights either aren't cailbrated, are damaged, or were produced unevenly.

There is most likely not a fix for this, though most all LCD screens have some form of light distortion. My own LCD screen is slightly brighter around the edges, where the backlights are located, but this is only noticeable when displaying a completely black screen.

Monitor doesnt work

Replace 3A PF### fuse on main board. (reason for the # is because I have put the monitor together and cant remember the component number) I could see with a torch the initial display on power up. The PCB has white writing on it to display what component should be on the board. All PFs on the board have wire links on them but one. It looks Iike a black cylinder, 7mm long, and 3mm diammeter. The green writing on it was "bel MS 3A". I would have found this fuse earlier, but the writing was facing down on the board. This fuse powers the circuit to the back lights. Please check continuity of fuse before replacing back lights, as a 10 cent fuse is cheeper than backlights.
Fuses WILL blow for no reason. I have replaced it with a 5A for testing, and everything checked out OK. Also the monitor powered up and has been running fine.
