Screen goes off and sometimes never comes back on hp dv 2000 screen went down (black) under normal operation,
-LED-lights stays on,power is still on.
-CTRL-W and toggling some other keys: screen went blank, with above some horizontal lines.
-after a turn off, you have to wait a while (1 hour) for a restart.
-the problem reappears one of the following days.
-the ventilation mouths are cleaned but this doesn't help.

thats a trojan or virus in your laptop,i suggest u format or boot from cd/dvd rom with a compatible operating system disk(WIN7/XP/VISTA/2000),THEN U DO system repair..THAT IS IF U HAVE ANY IDEA ABOUT IT,IF NOT,TAKE IT TO UR REPIARMAN
When I opened my laptop this morning my computer won't come on. The screen is totally black. I took out the battery and put it back in ---- still nothing. I plugged it in with the power cord --- nothing! What is wrong with my HP Compaq Presario CQ60?
VGA card problem..that's what tech told me & changed it 3 times...but still laptop goes off.(exactly like u described)...they finally said need new motherboard??? so VGA will not do this again!!!!
I don't know, If I change motherboard...will this happen again...is it worth it??? My pavillion dv 2000 is only 1.5 years old..was expensive??/
you need to restore the computer fo factory condition when the hp logo comes up right when u turn on the computer press the f11 key rapidly until it disappears. any questions you can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Press the one button until the system is off, then remove the batery for about 5 to 10 secs, replace it back, the system should come one now. it is due to improper shutdown, HP system don't really suppur hibernation. good luck
Try connecting an external monitor to the laptop, power up the monitor first then boot up the laptop. The video data will switch to the monitor automatically, check if the monitor dislays a normal image and see if the image stays on the monitor.
Also press and hold the Fn key and press the F4 key, these keys toggle the video output between the LCD screen and the video port.
Test to see if this functions correctly.
