GPS touch screen sprayed with Windex; doesn't work.

My husband sprayed the GPS screen with Windex. It comes on, but takes a long time, and the touch screen doesn't respond. We put it in the freezer, but is there a better way to fix it? Can it be fixed?

After reading sharcnet's reply yesterday that putting the unit in the freezer was absolutely the wrong solution, I was very panicked! However, once the unit thawed out it worked fine. We tried the freezer because we've used that tip before to "freeze-dry" cell phones that got wet. Luckily the LCD was not damaged & everything is working fine now. And my husband knows not to spray Windex on any electronic screen!

Is there a process known to man that cleans windex streaks off an lcd screen?

How to Clean an LCD Screen
So, first of all, let's decide what we don't use to clean it:
Anything containing bleach or ammonia, such as Windex. That will react with the plastic and make the plastic screen become cloudy and discolored.
Anything sharp, pointy or abrasive.
Your easiest choice is one of those LCD cleaning solutions they sell in places where they sell computers. But they're expensive, and why bother when you can make your own solution for next to nothing?

What you'll need:
Distilled water (available at your supermarket; tap water leaves streaks and minerals).
White vinegar (you may substitute isopropyl alcohol; either way, make sure these substances are diluted before they come near your screen).
A clean, soft cloth (never use any kind of paper product).
A spray bottle.

In the spray bottle, mix the distilled water and alcohol/vinegar, in a 1:1 ratio.
Turn off the LCD display.
Spray the mixture onto the cloth, never directly onto the screen.
Wipe gently - oh, so gently - from top to bottom. Do it horizontally, too, if you think that leaves a cleaner result.
Let the screen dry before turning it back on.

Hands Off!
Fingers leave dirt and oil smudges that must be cleaned off. Also, every time you touch the screen you risk doing damage to those tiny creatures inside that hold the colored flashlights. Keep your fingers to yourself.

After cleaning magellan GPS with windex the touch screen stopped reacting to finger touch commands

Slide power switch then slide and hold the power switch in the off position for more than 8 seconds. this will reset the device. you might have to do this a couple of times

If the above doesn't work, you should update your device software by visiting the content manager page of the magellan website

The touch screen is not working properly when you

Turn the unit off and make sure the power cable is disconnected as well, get a good SCREEN cleaner. Not the same as Windex or other product. Clean the screen well, you need to get rid of the oils and dirt on the screen. Once you are finished and the unit has been dried off power the unit back up and in one of the submenus you will find a screen calibration option. Use this and you should then be finished and the unit should go where you touch. Hope this helps

The screen seems to think that it is being touched when it is not therefore it takes "search" action and won't stop.

Turn the unit off, then clean the screen with a good quality screen cleaner this should get rid of the oil and dirt that has accumulated on it. Try to find a good LCD screen cleaner since this will have less harsh ingredients in it, however you can in a pinch use a lint free rag and some Windex on it, i have used this, It works but is a product that as far as electronics go USE AT YOUR OWN RISK
Hope this helps

How shoud clean the screen on my locater

Grab some quality paper towel. Then get either a spray bottle of Windex, Spray and Wipe (the one with Orange Oil works well) or some diluted Simple Green.

Spray the cleaner onto the paper towels (not directly onto the screen) then wipe screen clean. Follow with a dry paper towel to remove any streaks or cleaner residue.

Sprayed windex on touchpad

how about taking the cover off (if possible) and getting some compressed air, either from the can available at most computer-type stores or from a compressor with air gun attachment, and blow it out thoroughly as best you can.You may also want to 'rinse' it with some electronic cleaner but make sure you disconnect it to do this. You need to get the circuit board dried out and hopefully there is no other damage (ie. to the electronics).
No guarantees on this but it is the kind of thing I would do before having to replace it.

The black print don't work

ok you need to take out the inks then remove the print head it just comes out once the inks are taken out, get some windex and clean the bottom off the print head with a fine lint free cloth spray the windex on the rag then clean the print head, also if its really bad spray windex into the where the inks also sit give it a good squirt let it sits for a few minutes then wipe it out, make sure you DONOT touch the gold bits on the printhead. refit to machine do a head clean on the driver should work fine.

Cleaning my monitor's screen

Absolutly they make special cleaners for LCD's, you definatly don't want to use windex or any other household cleaner.

They come with a microfiber cleaning cloth that works great!
Go to your neareast electronics or office supply store. Just ask for an LCD screen cleaner. The above pic is one that is sold at best buy, radioshack, and other stores.

Hope this helps
