Question about Samsung HL-R6167W 61" HDTV
I am having the same issue Shows a gray and sometimes some green lines the screen when i turn it on. I can see a light in the back but TV is on, however it turns off after about a 1 min. I noticed a solution posted for a problem close to this. I do hear the color wheel spinning by the clicking noise however, I unplug it after it shuts down and gives me a reading that it is in standby mode. If I repeat this process two times in a row... then the tv works perfect and it will keep working all day as the temperature is heated up in the house and outside. This only happens in the morning when the TV is starting from a cold start. Would I still assume it is weak ballast? Would it need to have an aggressive reset? Or is a temperature switch of some sort. This just started last week, and I would say that the tv has about 1200 hours total on it. PLEASE HELP! David L. Le

noise you are hearing can be the fans inside with bad bearings and or what im assuming given the info you gave.More likely the motor inside the optics engine (color wheel) is making noise..This will also cause picture problems..very expensive to repair..

OK, this is a weak ballast that is causing the shut down, the ballast is unable to maintain a steady current due to its damaged circuitry. When the ballast is weak, it will try to power up the lamp and give about 3 to 5 clicks. if the main Board doesn't get a clear signal for the ballast, signaling the lamp is at full power, it will shut down the entire set ti prevent a fire.
The part number is BP47-00027A

The transformer can't damage the new lamp. Faulty transformers normaly take out the driving transistors or the fusible link in the power supply, if these are good then just replace the lamp. Espacially if you know the lamp is bad (test it by swapping with the others if unsure)
