The compressor is running the coils in freezer are cold. The interval that the comp is running is only about 10-15 seconds. I cannot locate any timing devices for it (defrost and such). Where are these. It cycles on every 3 minutes or so then off after 10-15 seconds

No frost at all anywhere. The fridge is empty and I have panel off in freezer to see coils. This was a sudden occurence and was noticed quickly. The fans for the freezer to fridge is working as well as the fan for the coil. the coils are clean also.

I hope this does the trick I will try to locate a relay and such now. I would have liked a little direction here but I will manage. Thanks.

You dont have a adjustment on this machine. Your problem is with your relay. By tapping it on the ground most likely broke it. They are like a light bulb in a way that they have a wire very this running from one side to the other. Replace the relay. That tells your compressor to run and stay running or shut off. and if the relay is short cycling then you are still going to have this problem. There is nothing else that it could be since you are getting at least 60 degrees tells me that this is not a thermostat problem and is a relay problem

Hi: When this happens it means that there is frost built up in the back of the refrigerator. You are having an issue with the defrost heater or the defrost timer. There is an off chance the refrigerator's freezer is over packed with food and there is no circulation. If you're handy empty the fridge and take a hair dryer to the back wall to melt away the frost from behind. Look at the heater. A glass tube with a wire coil running through it. If the coil is broken, replace it. If not you will be looking at a defrost timer. Usually on a circuit board and expensive.

Hi,

There is no "reset". The thermostat controls running of the compressor. If the compressor is running at all, the thermostat is not likely the problem.

There are lots of things which can cause cooling problems in refrigerators. You can read about the most common ones at the following link. Each would have to be inspected/tested for one at a time until the cause in your case is found or surmised.

Unit runs for about 5 min the cuts off. whats the problem?

Hi!!
It could be many things, the most common are Low R22 refrigerant, bad fan motor, bad compressor. obstructed condenser coil, bad starting relay, bad capacitor. among other things.
To check fan motor, set unit to HI Fan Only setting and let it run for a while, check that fan did not loose speed and it is not getting too hot.
If fan is OK, then turn unit to HI Cool 60-65 degrees and see what happens. Hear if compressor kicked in or if just made a humming noise and stopped. if this happens, replace capacitor.

Kenmore hum click sound

Bad overload relay or bad compressor. You can change your overload relay to test, usually fairly cheap, (55.00 from Sears) however if it is your compressor, it is out of it's five year warrantee and is not worth repair. 900 to 1100.00 to repair in my area.

Smelt burning smell in the morning stopped cooling

I suspect the start relay burnt on the compressor. Now the compressor can not turn on. You need to repalce the relay.

2006 kenmore frig - freezer and frig are both hot

if both sides are hot it sounds as if the compressor isnt running. pull the refig away from the wall and remove the cardboard cover the compressor is the black bowling ball loking thing that you see. fell to see if it is running should have vibration and making a humming sound. if its not running listen for 3-5 minutes to see if you are hearing an intermittent humming and clicking noise. this would indicate a bad start relay for the compressor. if the compressor is running then you mostlikely have a freon problem which will require a qualified technician to repair. good luck and thanks for using fixya Peyton..

KENMORE TRIO 2004 59675523400 REEFER/FREEZER NOT COOLING

It is the compressor that has failed. The hum is it trying to start and the following click is the overload protector opening. What is the temperature where the refrigerator is located? Allow the compressor to cool down before trying to restart it. If it still does not restart after it has cooled off it is done.

Kenmore not freezing nor cooling. humming noise

DONT SAY THAT COMPRESSORS BAD YET !!!! TECHCUMSE AND COPELAND ALL HAVE THE SAME COMPONENTS FOR STARTING THE COMPRESSOR. ALL COMPRESSORS HAVE EITHER A "PIN-TYPE PLUG-IN START RELAY, OR CAPACITOR START ASSIST RELAY" TO GET THE COMPESSOR TURNING.( FROST-FREE REFRIGERATORS ALMOST ALWAYS HAVE A START-CAPACITOR, RELAY, AND T-STAT COMBO ON ALL MAKES. THE IN LINE BI-METAL TYPE T-STAT THAT PREVENTS THE COMPRESSOR FRON OVER HEATING... THEY CAN GO WEAK. THIS IS THE "CLICKING SOUND YOU ARE HEARING !!! CALL A REPUTABLE DEALER THAT IS "FACTORY CERTIFIED" FOR YOUR MAKE AND MODEL AND GET A "FLAT-RATE" DIAGNOSTIC CHECK PERFORMED. NEVER LET A REPAIRMAN TAKE DEFECTIVE PARTS OUT OF YOUR HOUSE FOR ANY REASON. BY LAW THEY HAVE TO LET YOU KEEP THEM UNLESS THEY ARE REPLACING THEM COVERED UNDER WARRANTY FOR EXCHANGE. UNFORTUNATELY HUNDREDS OF CONSUMERS ARE "BILKED" BY THE " DOI-IT-ALL REPAIR-MAN. MOST MANUFACTURES ONLY HAVE 1 YEAR ON COMPRESSORS FOR REFRIGERATORS 5-10 YEARS ON A/C COMP. DONT BE AFFRAID TO WATCH AND ASK QUESTIONS TO REPAIRMEN YOU LET "INTO YOUR HOME".
