Says "card is locked" when turned on, but card is NOT locked

When I turn the camera on it says "card is locked". I know there is a lock on the SD card but it is not on. I have tried the card in other cameras and it works fine. Also, I have put other cards in this camera and it always says "card is locked" so I know it is a problem with the camera, not the card.

I've had exactly the same thing happen on my camera.
If it tells you that "the card is locked" and you know that it is unlocked, push the white switch down on the side of the card. Unlocked, the switch should be nearest the metal connectors, then push it back up. ie the unlocked position. This should cure your problem. It certainly did with me. If it happens again, repeat the process.
Hope this helps.

Get card locked message when I turn camera on. Can't turn the message off,\.

Look at your memory card. SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Camera says card is locked but it's not!!!

You already know about the 'lock' switch on SD cards; did you know it doesnt actually lock the SD card by itself? It merely pushes a switch lever in the reader (in this case, your camera), that in turn tells the electronics to NOT write on the SD card.

So, if your SD cards are indeed working (check on a card reader), it would look like the lever in the camera that senses the position of the lock switch is jammed / bent. If you could pry into the card slot in the camera, and try to shake this lever with a long narrow object (a straightened paper clip, perhaps), that might yield good results.

Alternately, look up 'CHDK' on Google; it is an alternate OS that gives your Canon *lots* of other features. In your case, more importantly, it *requires* the SD card to be locked in use. Dont worry, with CHDK booted in, the camera will store pictures even when it sesnses the card is write-protected. So, it not only solves your problem, it gives you loads of extra features like RAW capability, time laps, remote operation and more, all for free.

Memory card is locked. Where is the lock?

This is usually caused by the SD card, and is nothing to do with the camera. On the SD card there is a small slider - which allows you to lock the card (to prevent accidental erasure).

If you put in on the table with contacts upwards, corner cut top left, then the slider is on the right hand edge, about 1/3 the way down. If it is slid to the top position (nearest the contacts) the card is unlocked. If it is slid down (away from the contacts) the card is locked.

If it is a damaged / "cheap" card, sometimes the slider falls out, in which case the card is locked. You can still read from it, but not write to it until fixed or replaced.

First check is to turn the camera off, remove the card, move the slider to locked, then back to unlocked. Replace in the camera and turn on.

I have a canon powershot sx110is and when i turn it on it will not take any pictures but instead gives the message "memory card error." When I put it to the display mode it says the same message plus...

First see if the camera will work without the memory card installed. Then format the internal memory using the camera's setting as described in the manual.

Then turn OFF the camera and insert the sd card. Turn on and reformat the card too.

Make sure you have NEW batteries or sometimes things go flakey.

I just downloaded my photos to our computer, did the safe card remooval and now I get Card Locked when I turn the camera on. We have used this same SD card for a while now with no problems.

Check to see if the lock switch is turned off on your sd card....look close on the edge..
Also, try a card reformat if your images are safely on your computer....

Screen reads SD CARD locked

I have 17 of these cameras and for some reason after a while some of them develop this problem. It is very frustrating but I can usually get them to work by taking disk out, turning on camera, put in auto mode, wait for delay to switch to ready then put card in. I works most of the time and if not turn it off and keep trying. Some kind of glitch in the computer I guess. Hope this helps.
