Sounds like you tried this, but it's worth a shot again. Remove the CMOS battery on the motherboard and let the laptop sit for an hour, then replace the battery with a new one.

If the only real issue is changing the time and date, you can do this in Windows and it will reset the BIOS clock, too, of course.

If the problem is that the time and date keep reseting, you either have a low CMOS battery or a short on the motherboard that is resetting it.

If all else fails, you might need to flash the BIOS from a floppy disk with the latest BIOS version for your machine to reset it and go from there.

PS: BIOS reset problems on laptops are sometimes due to power problems caused by battery packs going bad; check your battery pack, too, and see if it is working okay.

Good luck...

It appears the Thinkpad has a password lock on the BIOS.
This password cannot be removed by removing the BIOS battery.

IBM Thinkpad will not hold date & time.

Replace the backup battery and run BIOS Setup Utility to reset the time and date. This will resolve the issue.

0271 error

go to the bios and set the time and date there. you also may need to load the default settings to reset the bios to remove any bios passwords. if that does not work remove the bios battery or move the bios jumper for one minute. to reset it write down all bios settings befor you do it.

TIME DATE LOCK 0271

This IBM 0271 error code means the Date and Time setting in the BIOS is incorrect and needs to be reset in the BIOS configuration.
This is caused by a dead or nearly flat BIOS battery.
You need to replace the BIOS battery and reset the Date and Time.

Bios lock, ERROR CODE 0271

Hi,
Error code 0271 - Date and time error. Neither the date nor the time is set in the computer.
Run BIOS Setup Utility to reset the time and date
It sounds as though your computer has the wrong time in the CMOS. The CMOS (Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductors) is the chip that holds the basic startup information for the BIOS, system and its peripherals while the system is turned on and off.

If you can get into the BIOS check the date and time settings and make sure they are correct.

It may also be a case of the CMOS battery going out. When this happens your computer will tend to not keep the correct time. They are cheap and relatively easy to replace. Before buying a new batter your can try to take it out and let it sit for about 10 minutes or so to reset the CMOS and then go put the battery back in and go into the BIOS and reset the clock.

Hopefully taking the batter out or replacing it will get past your lock icon asking for the password. Just search for CMOS or BIOS default password for your brand of laptop.

My IBM thinkpad A21e is showing me an error message

You need to replace your BIOS battery. The battery is old and cannot maintain the BIOS configuration. That is why you are getting incorrect date and time and bad CRC error.
Replace the battery and then configure the BIOS settings.

ERROR 0271

Are you a computer whizz? (do you know a lot about computers like me?)

Could be the Cpu fan (Central Processing Unit)
That could be lethal to the laptop.
Just as well it's a IBM other wise . . .
As for the error it means the time and date are not set.
soloution: run the bios setup utillity to reset time and date.
