Knocking sound when copying

It could be due to the cartridges or the encoder strip (transparent strip seated behind the cartridge carrier) has gotten loose from its position. Please follow the steps below to identify and fix the problem:

  1. Open the printer cover and remove the cartridges. Note: If the carrier does not automatically move to the center, turn off the printer or unplug the printer from the power source and then slide the carrier to the center for the loading position.
  2. Check the encoder strip and make sure it is secured in its place.
  3. Close the printer cover.
  4. Re-brick your printer. Pull out the power supply (black box where the power cord is plugged in at the back of the printer) and put it back after 30 seconds.
  5. When the printer turns on, reinsert one cartridge first. Close the printer cover and check for any errors.
  6. If no error appears, reinsert the other cartridge. Close the printer cover.
  7. Replace whichever cartridge is causing the error to appear with a new cartridge.
  8. If no error appears, try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

Problem: Carrier not moving to the loading position

If you're having trouble with the cartridge carrier not moving automatically to its loading position (to install/replace cartridges) even when the printer is on and the cover is open, please follow the steps below:

  1. Unplug the printer from the power source.
  2. With the printer cover open, hold the solid white strip that connects from the carrier assembly to the ink cartridge carrier and gently slide the carrier to the center of the printer.
  3. Open the latch and remove the used cartridges.
  4. Load the new cartridges. Close the latch and then the printer cover.
  5. Re-plug the printer to the power source.
  6. After going through the startup process, try to print a document to verify that the cartridges are working and installed properly.

Cover open lexmark3480

It could be that one of the cartridges is not seated properly in the cartridge carrier. Please try this approach to fix the problem.

1. Make sure the printer is on.

2. Open the printer cover. The print cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position, unless the All-in-One is busy. Note: If the carrier does not automatically move to the center, turn off the printer/unplug the printer from the power source and then slide the carrier to the center.

3. Remove both cartridges from the carrier.

4. Close the printer cover.

5. Re-brick your printer. Pull out the power supply, black box where the power cord is plugged in at the back of the printer, and put it back after 30 seconds.

6. When the printer turns on, reinsert one cartridge first.

7. Close the printer cover and check for any errors.

8. If no error appears, reinsert the other cartridge. Close the printer cover.

9. Replace whichever cartridge is causing the error to appear with a new cartridge. Then try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

It could either be due to a stuck cover sensor or the cartridges in your printer. Please follow the steps below to fix the problem:

5. Rebrick (pull out the power supply, black box where the power cord is plugged in at the back of the printer, and put it back after 30 seconds).

6. When the printer turns on, reinsert one cartridge first.

7. Close the printer cover and check for any errors.

8. If no error appears, reinsert the other cartridge. Close the printer cover.

9. Replace whichever cartridge is causing the error to appear with a new cartridge.

I need to extract the printhead from a Canon MP540 printer in order to install a new one. I have just received an incomplete answer from FIXYA. When I turn on the printer and raise the cover, the...

The print head is not designed to be moved manually and damage may occur if you try to do so forcefully.
To center the print head to replace ink tanks and to replace/remove print head you should do the following:
1. Make sure power is turned on and open the Paper Output Tray gently. 2. Lift the scanning unit (cover) until it stops. Lift with document cover closed. The print head holder should move to the replacement position (center).
Do not force print head holder to move nor touch it while it's moving. These parts are very delicate and generally are made mostly of plastic.
IMPORTANT If the Scanning Unit (Cover) is left open for more than 10 minutes, the Print Head Holder moves to the right. In this case, close and reopen the Scanning Unit (Cover).

Start buton is blinking

Hi,
Open the printer cover and check if the carrier is moving to the center. (Mine didn't)

The power light is blinking because the printer carrier is not moving.

Open the printer cover again, if it won't move to the center, pull the white cable that you will see there. Please be very careful in doing so.

After moving the carrier to the center, take the cartridges out.

Close the cover again and open it. Check if it will move.

If in case the carrier did not move to the center, unplug the black box behind the printer.

Turn the printerupside down (I kid you not).

Shake the printer for 10-20 seconds. (still not kidding)

Check if you will see any foreign objects falling from the paper feed path. (nothing fell out of mine)

After that step, plug up the printer again and check if the carrier will move to the center. (Mine did)

Put the cartridges back in and print.

Unable to access cartridges to replace one

Make sure the printer is on. Open the cover. The cartridge carrier should automatically move to the center for the loading position. Replace the cartridges then close the cover.
In some cases, the ink cartridge carrier won't position itself in the middle even when the printer is on and the cover is open. Just unplug the printer from the power source. With the cover open, hold the white tape in the middle inside the printer. The other end of it is connected to the carrier. Gently slide the carrier to the center. Load the cartridges. Close the cover. Plug the printer back to power source. Thanks.

Power down printer. Lift cover and manually slide cartiridges left to right a few times. close cover, power on and see if when you open the cover again the cartiridges align. To double check your system is working, try to make a copy of a document.
