Question about Technics SL-DZ1200 CD Player

1 Answer

In turntable mode the cd's are dragging their tempo

Hello, this weekend one of my sl-dz1200 decks has started to drag it's tempo. In Cd mode it plays just fine. I have tried a disk specially designed to clean lenses within the cd player, which made a difference for half an hour. Is this happening because of cold weather, being a smoker I leave a small window open in the same room for most of the weekend? Had the heating on last night but still no normal sl-dz1200!

As you face the turntable, just under the spinning platter and at the side of the digitail circular display, you would find the sensor which is covered in dust at exactly the 3 oclock position. What I believe you would need to blow the dust off this sensor will obviously be a can of air. Now here is the big BUT! The little tube you get with the can of air is not long enough to bend through the holes and get within a good range of this sensor whilst keeping the can strictly in the upright position( nozzel at the top/facing upwards). So a slight mod to the tube will be required, ie finding a bigger one that slots over the top or fastening another tube to the original making damn sure it does not fall off. Try to estimate the tip of your nozzel to be pointing towards the center display (the middle circle) and at approximately 10mm just before the tip reaches the centre.

Alternatively you could try the small gap between the inner display circle and the spinning platter, which could work. I took my decks apart and have ruined them both. I'd say heavy handedness and my inability to juggle played a huge part in the death of my technics! I was very suprised at the huge build up of dust on this sensor. I'm obviously no expert but I would look into covering the holes over on the platter to stop any excess dust going down there, but best ask someone you can trust if this is wise bearing in-mind the possibility of overheating. Good look and I hope it works. I 90% sure if I knew this before my Technics were playing up, I'd be still playing them now, gosh I got them over 3 years ago at £800 each. My balls are hurting Chow and may us un-intelligent ones rule the universe someday.

    Love Ice Berf. x

Found a video on a web site "how to remove the platter". It's a job which does'nt need a lot of skill just great care and patience. Within the video the guy will show the senors inside the platter itself. This is wear I found a huge build up dust which I blew off with a can of air. It's not a proffensional video but I found it very easy to follow. Unfortunate for though upon putting the deck back together again I've caused more damage with my clumsy haevy handed inpatience! After looking inside the deck (as long as you have no warranty left) you will see it is not that difficult and as a tip you can disconnect the lines of flat wires as they plug into the circuit board and are not soldered in. No soldering required to fix this. The guy who made this video deserves a lot of credit due to the fact he can save many of these decks from going to the bin! If I was rich and famous I would award him an Enviromental Gong.

How do I change belt on a Technics linear SL -H350 turntable

above video should help. if your platter is "stuck" then call them for tips. also make sure it does NOT say "direct drive" on the front of the unit.

presuming you are talking about the SL-H350 as in the body not the SL-DZ1200 as in the title

There might be something in the reader that needs to cleaned out. Or the cd reader itself might be damaged. In either case, you'll need professional help.

I had the same problem. Replacing the sensor is not gonna help. it is a focus problem. I had to fold a small piece of paper and put it under the sensor to raise it up alittle then you screw it in. The size of the paper you will have to figure out for yourself, but it will help u fix your problem
