SOURCE: Camera drop!

You need to take it to a camera shop for servicing, this is not something you're going to be able to solve at home

SOURCE: I dropped my camera and the lens won't retract.

When you reset the camera you should be able to hear the gears of the camera lens turning. The problem is that the lens is out of alignment so the lens can't slide back in. As the gears are turning, straighten out the lens (you might have to try forcing it in different directions if it's not obvious which way the lens is bent) and it should slide back in. You obviously want to be gentle enough to not break it, but sometimes you have to use a little bit of force based on the severity of the drop. You also might need to try a few times since the gears will only run for so long before stopping. I have fixed a few cameras this way but if the lens is bent too far out of alignment you'll have to get it profesionally fixed.

SOURCE: I DROPPED THE POWERSHOTA560 CAMERA AND NOW THE LENS

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

SOURCE: PowerShot SD630 lens stuck out, says lens error, restart camera

This is probably THE single most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

"lens error,restart camera"

This is a common problem for many digital camera. First if this camera in under warranty send it back. Its broken, you may be able to get it to work if wiggle the lens a little when you turn it on. The lens is jammed and the camera detects this when you turn it on. Turning it off should reset it, but if its still jammed you will get a error. Digital cameras are very complex devices and it does not take much to break some of them. You can check with canon in the past they whould sometimes offer you a chance to by a similar refurbished camera for a very reduced price over a new replacement.
