Wait for your computer to die open it up log on go to the desktop right-click > Properties > Screensaver > Power... and set all to "Never" and your done

The screen may become dark if Picture mode is set to Cinema or Custom. If the screen continues to remain dark after changing the picture quality mode, go to the Backlight, Picture, Brightness menu and adjust the brightness to your liking. When Power Saving is fixed to Low or High, the screen becomes dark. Some TVs have a Light Sensor so the picture will just become brighter or darker depending on the lighting in the room.
You can also try programming from a different source, like a DVD player or VCR to check whether the problem is caused by the device that sends the signal to the TV.

Check your display settings in the Power save part of Control Panel. You can set a brightness for battery and AC. Normally you set it brighter on AC and dimmer on battery (to save battery life) but if you've adjusted it for some reason that would explain it
look on your keyboard for the key with the 'fn' meaning function and then press the up arrow key on the keyboard. This will make the screen brighter this happens when you are on your battery to save power. You can also do it manually by accident.
On your laptop there should be key combinations to change the brightness of your screen. Once you do this, it will stay that way for each mode until you change it again.
