I replaced the cartridge, and now it just prints a blank piece of paper
Our Dell AIO A940 stopped printing black ink. Tried so many things, and finally (a year later) got it to print by selecting:
PRINT, PROPERTIES, PAPER SETUP, SPECIALTY PAPER, PHOTO/GLOSSY

I had the same problem. What happened to mine is that the ink crusts up on the cartridge. Remove the black (or color) cartridge and take a paper towel dampened with warm water and wipe it over the the area where the ink is dispensed on the bottom of the cartride until ink seems to be flowing freely. Then pop it back into the printer and use it as normal.
I 've had this printer for four years, never used til now. Loaded new cartridges got color but no black ink. Put black cartridge in very hot water for several minutes changed the printing speed to high quality now it's working,

Don't buy Dell printers! It'll only give you headaches, so don't waste your money!
I'd rather buy EPSON, cheaper and never had problems with it....

I had the same problem with my printer printing blank pages a few days after I refilled the black ink cartridge. I put it in hot water for about 5 to 10 seconds then wiped it off with a dry q-tip and now its working fine. Just make sure you run the clean nozzle application for the Dell Solutions menu.
I found that envelopes may LOOK like they print with black, but are actually using color to make black. If you don't want to use up your color ink or have to replace it (which also should fix the problem) go to control panel, printers, dell720, printing preferences and put a check in the box that says print color images in black and white only. Reverse when you need to use color.
Some of these problems happen sometime when you need to clean your nozzle, you can do this by going to start on your computer, clicking control pannel, go to your printers, right click the printer you are using and go to prefrences. to the search thing and type nozzle, it should give you an option to clean the nozzle and run the tests and it will clean the nozzzle for you.

Take the plastic strip off the ink jet cartridge before putting the thing in the printer. Check the ink jets to see if they are clogged.

Replaced color and black ink cartridges with new generic ones, printed test sheets ok, cleared print nozzles twice and now it will only print blank pages.

i've had my 720 for about 3-4 yrs no problem all of a sudden when i replace the ink it won't print color and recently black either. i'm so frustrated to have spend 50 bucks on ink and i don't know if the Staples brank ink i bought is the problem or if its the cheap printer

I had the same problem with my Dell 720. I just bought a new cartridge because I thought it was dead and that was the problem. Then it did the same thing again. Frustrated, I took the cartridge to the kitchen sink, rinsed off the electrical connectors and ink dispersement area, wiped it dry and lightly scrubbed the ink dispersement area and ink started coming out! I popped it back into the printer and the dang thing started working like it was brand new!

printer prints eraticly, too light to read
it printed the page when I put in a new color cart..showing the alignment to pick a number..than it won't print anything else...the page prints with nothing on it.
Have not used printer for a couple of months so when it didn't print I put in a new black cartridge - still nothing at all, tried taking cables out and putting them back but nothing not even on a test page.

I have a dell 720 and it will not print. It does everything but put ink to paper. I am not sure if it is the new refilled cartridge or the printer? I have tried just about everything I can think of.
JJSand's solution worked for me, black is printing now. But it does use a lot of ink, is very bold and bleeds through the back side on economy paper. I'm amazed with so many reports that Dell doesn't have a solution for this. I was on chat for an hour with them yesterday and got no where near the solution I found in 5 minutes on FixYa.
dell720 printer will only print some of the page
Dell 720 Inkjet Printer, sounds like it's printing, but only prints out blank pages. Tried cleaning printer heads, new ink cartridge, reinstalled drivers. Tried JJSands answer, but nothing works.

had not used dell 720 printer for about 4 years after trial cartridges dried up.bought a new black generic cartridge on line for $20.it printed with white lines so ran nozzle clean from maintenance 3 times.it was now printing faintly and after about 10 copies stopped printing just got blank pages.opened up new cartridge, sponge inside seemed to be dry of ink.
bought some ink refill from calidad of right type injected ink and put cartridge back in printer-printed 3 sheets than stopped blank sheets only.
tried cleaning methods of cartridge in hot water with alcahol and ink seemed to flow.
put cartridge back into printer and still only got blank pages.

My Dell 720 printer showes I have plenty of ink but all I get are blank pages! This printer has never been a good printer and I would never recommend it to anyone!
My printer (720) will only print black, no colors. I have cleaned the nozzle heads, switched cartridges and nothing seems to work. No one seems to have any other suggestions. HELP !!!! AUGH!!!!!!!
I have Dell Photo Printer 720...it still says I have color ink (24%) and the black ink is 65% full. It is only printing some of the letters on the paper in very light ink...do I need to clean it? and if so how do I clean it?
