Question about Western Digital Passport WDXML800UE (WDXML800UETE) 80 GB Hard Drive
I have a WD passport, unknown size, and today when I plugged it in it was not found. I tried going into disk management to reset the Drive Path, but it was nowhere to be found. The only thing I can see is that it is an "unknown disk 1" and it it uninitialized. I tried to initialize but said it was unable to do so because "data error (cyclic redundancy check)" I have not tried to reformat my computer, and I run Windows Vista 64-bit. the Drive have been working fine for months until tonight. It shows under the "safely remove hardware" icon that the disk is connected, but when I search for it further it says that it is being used by the C: drive under some USB connection. exact path being C:/Windows/systems32/drivers/USBSTOR.SYS I need help on how to get the WD passport to once again be recognized as the F: drive on the computer, considering it is used to run specific programs that will no longer work because I no longer have an F: drive. thanks, Jason I have been using a WD passport. But now when i connect it to the system i'm not able to see it in MY COMPUTER. i can see it in safely remove hardware as WD only and the hardisk is missing. I can see the same in DataManagement as an unknown device which is not initialised. Thanks, Mani
Check hardisk circuit board. check F2-fusable 5Vdc protect. if HDD have sound while spinning disk head damaged.

For Western Digital Passport make sure you use the prigina;l USB cable or a replacement. They are not all the same. WD uses a propriatary cable with an extra power line I believe.
