Question about GE Ovens

Open Question

My GE XL44 Oven turns on by itself. Not sure what is going on and I do not want my hosue to burn down. Any ideas? Thanks. The oven is only 5 years old. I'm having the exact same issue. The oven frequently turns on by itself and seems to get hotter every time it does. Apparently the true model number for this unit is JGBW21HED3WW.

CHECK THE IGNITOR, IT SHOULD BE GLOWING ORANGE BEFORE GAS IGNITES. IF NO GLOW, REPLACE IGNITOR.

SOURCE: ge xl44 oven not igniting but burners ignite

The most common failure for a nobake on this type of oven is the bake ignitor. turn unit on and look at the bottom of the oven, you should after about 30-45 seconds see an ORANGE glow, if you do not, chances are you have a failed ignitor.Remove lower part of oven and if you have a meter, place one lead on each terminal and check for continuity( a closed circuit)
If you have an "open" circuit, the ignitor is bad

If you see the ignitor glowing down there that means power is getting to the oven circuit. You have a weak ignitor if that is the case. Sometimes you can bump it and make it work. Check out this video

I suspect a faulty ignitor. It must draw a certain amount of amps to open the gas valve

I have a GE Profile Spectra XL44. When I turned my oven on to 375 it read 100 degrees for 10 mins. I open the door and there was no heat. I then tried the broiler to make sure it worked and the the element...

i wouldn't say it is "normal", but yes, the bake element in the bottom could have burned out again. it depends too on how often you use the oven. if you use it every day, chances are it will burn out quicker than say someone who only uses it once a week. you can check the element for a burn hole or a blister break. you can also check it for continuity with an ohm meter if you have one. hope this helps.
