Cooling fan not working

My fan on my hp dv4 laptop started making a bad sound last week and now it appears to have stopped working completely. I can use the computer for about 5-10 minutes and then it gets so hot that it shuts down on it's own. Is this a problem I can fix myself by opening it and replacing the fan?

If you don't have experience of opening laptop then i'd advice not to do so as i have seen many people carrying half opened laptops in bag to the repair shop.
And then some repair shop take advantage by telling some part missing/screw missing etc. and charge more.

take it to repair shop and ask them to change the fan. it should not cost much.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

I had a pavilion dv4-1430us for over a year, recently I started up the fan was very noisy like a bearing noise. what should I do? thanks for the advice

If you have no experience with opening an repairing computers or laptops I recommend you take the computer to an HP Laptop Service center. If you understand the issues involved you can order a cooling fan from HP and install it yourself as long as you keep track of the screws in the outer case and where they go as well as any cabling.

Hello, I have a problem with my widescreen. I have a laptop (HP Pavilion dv2418ca, Windows Vista, Memory 2,00 GB, Processor Intel (R) Core (TM) Duo CPU, 32-bit Operating System) and my widescreen...

It may be caused by overheating. Overheating is the main problem with HP portables. Use a fan to cool down the computer and check how long it last working. If blowing air with a fan "Appears to fix the problem" stop using the computer and get maintenance service for it. The processor area needs to be cleaned.

How to downgrade vista to winxp pro at Hp pavilion DV4-1204TU ?

Well, this may make you think twice:

I bought a presario from circuit city last year, and I paid $200 to downgrade to XP. Everything was fine until it crashed last week. IT went completely bizzerk. HP won't provide support, cause I changed it. Circuit City is out of business, not much help there.

Basically, I am completely #$%%@@.

I am now paying to get Vista put back in. :-(

NO SOUND ON A NEW HP DV4

sounds like it's a physical problem not software, but to be sure i would update the audio drivers and see if that helps.

go here and pick your system and follow the steps to get any new drivers and install and see what happens.

NO SOUND on a new HP DV4

Go to add/remove programmes. Click on the media center utilities (sound/ music players etc) and re-install.

If your laptop has an IR sensor on check nothing is interfearing with it . (usually a car that has remote detection sensors so they open as you walk up to it) The IR on those are so strong it comes in through the windows of your home and messes everything IR up
