Question about Canon EOS Rebel XSi Digital Camera

Canon XSi not powering up

I have the Canon EOS Rebel XSi 12.2 mp Camera. The Camera worked GREAT when I bought it but it has been acting odd the last few weeks. The symptoms are... at first it would shut off by it's self.. So I though bad/wore out battery. I found a great deal on batteries so I bought 2 of the LP-E5 batteries for the camera. I also Bought a battery grip that will allow me to use 2 batteries for extended shooting durations. However, Since I have bought those items I have not even been able to get my camera to power up. On occasion, if I turn the camera on, I can press the shutter release button and the flash will pop up and looking through the view finder everything appears to be working but nothing shows up on the LCD as far as my settings go. I did buy this on Ebay from a reputable dealer and I had a 3 month warrenty being a refurbished camera. Well the 3 months were up a month ago and I no longer have a warrenty and I am in bad shape. Anyone have any kind of idea what might be going on here?

see, the problem is that the camera isn't even turning on now, If and when it does, I don't get to look at the LCD for setting. All I can do is look through the eye piece and see what you would normally see on a working camera. I have full charge on the batteries and I have tries 3 seperate batteries. I do not feel like paying an advanced fee of $210 to canon to fix this if I can find help elsewhere

It sounds like your problem is why is was refurbished, but they missed that problem.

Talk to the seller, if no go, threaten to get PayPal involved.

If it has a view finder make sure in the settings that the image is set to show up on the LCD screen also make sure the batteries have a FULL charge which means at least 8 hours of uninterrupted charging before use.

My guess is that with most nice digi cams it is set to not show the image in the LCD viewfinder but rather the actual real time with your eye view finder. look around the menu if you can and see what you can change as far as view finding and if i didn't help please specify the problem a little more and i will be glad to do whatever i can to help.

I am missing my installation cd for my Canon EOS rebel xsi camera. I have windows 2007. How do I get my pictures from the camera to my computer?

go to this page, confirm it is taking you to the windows 7 version. previous versions of windows, like Vista, will probably not allow you to transfer photos without first loading this utility.

Canon Xsi will not read external flash.

The XSi is not weather sealed like the 580ex II and is suseptable to liquid damage. Most cameras will take a few sprinkles and won't have a problem, but if the liquid got into the main body it might have issues. The top of the camera around the hotshoe is particularly sensitive.

I would doubt it could be self repaired. Take it to a liscensed repairer to have it looked at.
