Whirlpool electric dryer model "WED5820SWO" not starting

Rotating dial to a drying cycle and press start button - hear a "click" and nothing happens. The door is closed - the dryer has power - light is on when I open the door. Dryer is only two years old - any ideas on what is wrong?

The push to start relay is part n.39, located right behind the push to start switch.

First of all ensure these things:

Has a household fuse blown, or has a circuit breakertripped?
Electric dryers use 2 household fuses or circuit breakers. The
drum may be turning, but you may not have heat. Replace the
fuse or reset the circuit breaker. If the problem continues, call
an electrician.

■ Is the correct power supply available?
Electric dryers require 240 volt power supply. Check with a
qualified electrician.

■ Was a regular fuse used?
Use a time-delay fuse.

■ Is the dryer door firmly closed?

■ Was the Start button firmly pressed?

■ Is a cycle selected?
The dryer will not start in the Wrinkle Guard® position. Move
the dial past OFF.

If all these points can be answered with "yes" then check first if there is power to it, the water tank light comes on and the door switch is ok. The most common reason for the starting problem is the start relay, located behind the front timercontrol panel. This is more often not more than a cubed shape box made ofclear plastic with about 6 spade connectors on it, look for burn marksinside it, replace if looks damaged, do not attempt to bypass or shortout to test, as you will blow the timer or and control circuit boardand cause extensive damage. Ensure that power cables are disconnected when doing this!

If you need to replace some parts, find the parts manual here.

Click sound at power button and start button should get it going. If not then Dryer drum is not turning.

When I try to start a drying cycle with the dryer plugged in, I push the start button and nothing happens. Can you tell me what the problem is?

The problem is usually caused by a blown thermal fuse located on the blower housing. This thermal fuse is wire in series with the motor and when it blows open, power to the motor is cut and consequently the dryer will not start. No dryer function works when the motor cannot run. The machine will not start. You hit the power button in comes on, but when you press the start button -- nothing happens. You can hear the clicking while pressing it - but it doesn't start drying.

Whirlpool dryer will not start, used to start if I turned timer

whirlpool electric dryer will not start when you push start button. Model No. LER5634AW0. There is power to the dryer. The door switch appears to be working,(didn't check it with a meter). I push the start button, run it through all the cycles and still nothing. Are there any resets or circuit breakers that I could check? Where do I go from here?

I'd sure start by making sure the belt isn't broken. You can usually see the belt with a flashlight after accessing the panel (some are in front, others in the rear) - don't go probing around bare armed without unplugging the unit....

I have a 5 year old Whirlpool Electric Dryer, Model #LER7648KT2. The Dryer won't start. I have checked the door switch, start button switch and visible thermo switches or thermostats with an ohm meter...

There are usually 2 thermal fuses in dryer circuits. One is on the heater housing and will blow in an overtemp condition around 310-350F.
The other is on the blower or exhaust housing and will blow around 200F
Make absolutely sure the 2nd one is continuous and not intermittently functional. This will definitely stop the motor from functioning

Below is a diagram for an older model (LER4634). Your dryer has some additional terminals probably because it has additional drying cycle options.

The diagram may be more readable when copied and pasted into a plain text editor such as Notepad or another editor with non-proportional fonts

Switch Terminals
|TM |TM |BK |BK |BK |
|WB |OR |BU |BU |R |
|-- |-- |V |-- |-- |
|---|---|---|---|---|
|O |X |O |X |X |Auto - High Heat
|O |X |X |X |X |Auto - Low Heat
|---|---|---|---|---|
|<> |<> |~ |X |O |Cool Down / Fluff
|O |X |O |O |O |End of Cycle
|---|---|---|---|---|
|X |O |O |X |X |Timed - High Heat
|X |O |X |X |X |Timed - Low Heat
|---|---|---|---|---|

Legend:
O = Open (Infinite Resistance)
X = Closed (Continuous)
<> = Either (But not Both)
~ = Doesn't Matter
NA = Not Applicable

Switch Terminals:

TM - Timer Motor (Different Models may use different colors)
WB - Black/White
OR - Orange
BK - Black
BU - Blue
V - Violet/Purple
R - Red

Example: For the Auto - High Heat Dry cycle, the following terminals are continuous:
Terminals
<TM - OR>
<BK - BU>
<BK - R>
(of course since BK-BU is continuous and BK-R is continuous, then BU-R is also continuous.

This should allow you to test at least some of the cycles your timer switch has

I have a general schematic in PDF for whirlpool for gas and electric, but did not see an option to add an attachment to this message.

Hope this helps or point you in the right direction.

Nothing happens when I push the start button on my Gas Dryer

Three things you can check the door switch is it clicking? The thermal fuse you want to make sure there is continuity or worse case would be your motor.

Why wont my machine start drying?

I called Whirlpool on 08706008989. The machine can only dry half a load of washing at a time. At the end of the washing cycle, the Programme dial should be at either the sun or half sun symbol. Remove half the washing, set the drying time via the drying time dial and press the 1/2 Load Dryer button - Voila dry clothes!
