I can't burn anything with my DVD/CD-ROM but it reads dvds and cds

I can't seem to burn anything with my laptop. I have installed Cyberlink Power2Go and every time I open the program, it says "no burner is currently available or you don't have rights to access the burner". I have read a similar thread saying that in order to solve this problem, I'd have to delete the upper and lower filters. The problem is I don't have those in my regedit so that does not seem to be the problem. i've already uninstalled all the other burning softwares.. the only software i have now is cyberlink's power2go.. if i insert a blank CD, it won't detect it.. it would say 'please enter a disc into drive E'. My OS is microsoft windows vista home premium service pack 1. as i've said, every time i open the power2go software, it would say that No burner is currently available or you don't have rights to access the burner and i can't burn anything after that. here's my optical drive properties.. thanks.. What is Power2Go and do I need it

That depends. What OS are you running? What type of files will you burn to disc (and what capacity disc)?

The program lets you burn various files to CD, DVD or BD. If you only plan on burning data files, you may not need it. If you burn ISO to create bootable CDs or DVDs, you might find it useful if you have XP. Windows 7 and 8 include a feature to correctly burn ISOs. (I don't remember if that feature is included in Vista.)
If you want to copy optical discs to burn backup copies, this software will also handle that. The Windows built-in software doesn't copy discs with DRM.

If you are compiling your own audio and video and then burning the resultant file to disc, the software is partially useful. (Another program has to do the compiling.)
There are other programs that do the same tasks as Power2Go. Roxio Creator (includes the video editing and playback software in addition to the burning unit) and Nero Burning ROM are commonly advertised options. A review of Power2Go with links to reviews of similar products is here:,2817,2407197,00.asp .
I hope this helps. If you need additional information, please add a comment with your OS and file burning plans.

(I burn more ISOs and data files. Thus I use the Windows built-in software most of the time.)

I want to know how to make copies of DVDs and audio CDs using acer aspire 5742 laptop

Download and install Nero Burning Rom program, open it, set in the up window the option CD/DVD, get to preferite, copy CD or copy DVD option, depends by what you need, set the speed 4x for DVD or 8x for CD for have a good copy quality, insert the original disk, it will copy it, then insert the new disk to burn.

Does the toshiba sd 2502 , can it burn cds

It is a DVD ROM drive which stands for DVD Read Only Memory. In other words, this drive is meant to only PLAY DVDs and CDs but NOT save data to them.

To burn CDs you need a CD burner. Burners are of 3 types:

CD writer only burns and reads CDs.

Combo drive reads CDs and DVDs but only burns CDs.

Super drive burns and reads from CDs and DVDs.

As you go higher in functionality, the price also increases. Check your needs before you plan to buy one. Also compare prices of all the drives. Note: burn-able media costs are separate.
