Question about Dell Latitude C810 PIII 1Ghz, 10-30Gb, 128-256Mb, CD, FD ,Sealed,Refurbished,No OS. (DELLLATITUDEC8101) PC Notebook
The Dell Latitude C810 laptop is on the way. Will a CD-RW drive play DVD or is it strictly for music or burning DVDs? If so, can I install a CD-Rom (DVD Player)? What (gulp) would the cost be to do it? I know it's a lot to ask, but this is what is offered in the laptop. Any idea of value at all?: Windows XP Professional, 1000 MHz Processor, 15" color TFT, Active Matrix Screen, 30. GB Hard Drive, 256 MB Ram, CD-RW Drive, 1.44 Floppy Drive, SVideo Port for TV Hookups, 2 USB Ports, Built in Modem for Dial Up, A LAN/Ethernet Port Built right in for Brdbnd conctns, High Speed Internet & Networking, New WiFi Wireless Card for wireless internet & Networking, Ports to add external Serial Port, Parallel Port, VGA connection, PS-2 Connection, 2 PCMCIA Slots, Adapter, Charger. I am very green to all these port slot names & numbers. Convince me that I took a good chance .. or did I goof up? Thanks, Dovie
A CD-RW drive can read and write various CD formats, but not DVD. For that you need a combo drive that supports DVD-ROM to read, or DVD-RW to read and write DVDs. Searching the Dell website indicates that they do not make a compatible internal drive but you can connect an external DVD-capable drive through any available USB port.

NO sorry to tell you you need at least a dvd drive to play dvd's DVD - R/RW to burn onto a DVD disc but you are lucky, external DVD drives are relatively cheap now days, just look around online or at walmart my estimate is that you wont pay more than 200 for a dvd-rw drive (external) as far as the value of the computer you are getting i would say currently $200 to a max of $400 value if you were going to sell it and thats asking high. if you didnt pay more tha that then you are ok IF you did i would be asking for your money back as you can go to walmart and get 3 times the computer for 300 bucks. if you need to know more just shoot me an e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org just let me know in the subject that your real.
