Air conditioner fan problem

I have an air conditioner (split type) that when turned on to cool the house, the fan runs for about two minutes then stops running. I'm reffering to the condense fan on the outside unit. Any suggestions, do I just need a new motor.

    The fan moves freely.

I guess looking at it closer, the unit doesnt stop running, The fan just stops running after a few minutes. The unit gets pretty hot if you don't switch it off.

i should clearify.. the fan moves freely when its not running. It however doesnt move that easily after it stops running and its "running". It seems like something is trying to running because when the fan stops running it buzzes fairly load.

Can you move the fan freely with your hand. Or is it kinda stiff to move?

Take a brush and clean it, then oil it.

Ruud achiever 10 froze up but the fan works but not getting cool air flow through house. what is causing this?

The most common things that will cause a system to freeze up are:
1. Dirty air filters
2. Dirty evaporator coil
3. Indoor fan motor not running
4. Blocked/restricted return air flow
5. Low on refrigerant charge ( most common)

I would start with the filters. When the system is froze up, turn off the "cool" and just have the fan set to on. Make sure there is no more ice anywhere, turn the system back on and check your air flow throughout the house. If it feels normal, then filters, return, and fan should be good. The outside unit will have warm to hot air coming out of the fan if the charge is good enough, but that's not a perfect way to check, you will need gauges and a temp reader with knowledge of super-heat and sub-cooling to check the charge the right way. Hope this helps and good luck!

Unit only stays on for a couple of minutes before shutting off

Due to the many different questions I see about Air Conditioning, I am including this overview to help us better understand each other for trouble shooting. A basic air conditioning system has a Thermostat, Air Handler or Furnace Fan and a Condensing unit. In a split system, the condensing unit (Condenser) is separate from the furnace and usually in the back yard. When working properly, it blows hot air. It connects to the cooling part of the system by 2 copper lines. One large line and 1 small line. The part that cools the house is the "Evaporator" and is usually on top of the furnace inside the square metal box (Plenum). When the Air Conditioner is running, the large copper line should be cold and the smaller line should be warm. Common signs of low refrigerant are that both lines are the same temperature and/or frost or ice has built up on the large line at the condenser. The thermostat will normally display room temperature on till it is touched to change the setting. It could have a "Span" setting as well as times and temperatures. The operating "span" of MOST residential thermostats is 40 to 90 degrees. That means you can set it as low as 40 degrees and no higher than 90 degrees. It probably has a fan switch also. When in the "ON" position, the fan will run constantly, 24 / 7, but the condenser will still cycle on and off as needed to keep the house at set point. If you have a suggestion to include in this paragraph, please let me know.

Does this help to narrow it down for me? How long does it run? How do you restart it? Roger

My air conditioner starts blowing like a fan before my apartment is cooled off, why does it kick off and on like this?

When you first turn it on the fan runs and after a few minutes the outside unit comes on, once the outside unit comes on it take time for it to cool the coils which cool the house, And a/c does not really cool the air,It removes the heat that is in the air.

SPLIT AC NOT COOLING AFTER 30 MINUTES

sounds like the out door fan is not running and the comp is over heating, rec to start unit and check to see if the fan is running in the first 30-45 min, if not check cap or replace fan motor.

Liquid line freesing up

Check your air filters first and the indoor coil to make sure it isn't coated with dust and lint. Then make sure the indoor fan is running while the unit is trying to cool the house. If all that is good then you probably need to get the refrigerant charge checked.

Soleus KFGHP-09-ID Mini Split

This is normal operation for these styles of minisplits. The thermostat is not in the remote but is located on the return air of the indoor coil, so the air needs to be flowing in order for the thermostat to measure the rooms temperature. Set your fan speed to auto and the fan will slow down when setpoint tempurature is met.
