Whirlpool Gas Dryer Timer problem

The timer is broken on my LGR7646JQ0 (the knob does not automatically move to the OFF area). My mother and I fought all day about whether I broke the machine by turning the dial counterclockwise (which is actually how I broke our old machine) but this one seems to have no problem with turning both ways. I looked in the manual and there is no direction specified. Can anyone resolve this dispute and suggest how to fix the timer?

OK, this timer is designed to spin in both directions and, if you have to advance this timer in any way to complete a cycle, you will need to replace this timer asap.

In most cases, the mechanism will fail, causing this non advancement stage(stalled timer mech).

replacing the timer will fix this issue.

Need control knob timer dryer doesn't shut off

If you are stating that the timer knob never moves to the off position, then the timer is probably bad and needs replaced. If you can't turn the timer because the knob feels too loose then possibly the knob is just broken. Timer knobs usually just pull straight off so you can look at the back side and see if the plastic around the shaft hole is cracked.

The selector knob on my Whirlpool LER4634JQ1 does not move, so the dryer will not turn off automatically and no "end of cycle" buzzer sounds. Do I simply replace the timer?

Your timer most likely does need to be replaced. The timer has a small motor that causes it to rotate during the cycle and those can go bad causing the timer to not advance. Unfortunately, you cannot get just that timer motor anymore. Hope this helps!

When u turn on my gas whirlpool dryer it runs as normal. when u check on it a little later (on automatic dry) the timer has not moved, and the dryer has quit producing heat

Hi, the timer control the heating commands and, if its not moving(rotating), this will confirm timer failuer. replace it asap.

Dryer turns but no heat and knob doesn't move

Check the switch on the motor. It may have failed, or has a wire/terminal broken/disconnected. It is a multi-contact switch. both sections must click. Could also be mechanically loose on the motor and therefore just not getting fully activated.

Hope this is helpful.
