Dryer turns on without using start switch - GE DBSR453EBWW Electric Dryer

I have seen that in those dryers before and it has always been the motor that is causing it to start without engaging the start switch.

Since the Hotpoint uses the cheapest switch without a good track record for dependability, that would be my guess.

The drum in the dryer has most likely has a belt around it that makes it turn. This belt could have broken and you hear the motor running but the drum can't turn. For more info look it up on you tube. (dryer belt replacement)

Sounds like you have a faulty start switch.
Turn off the power to the dryer, remove the switch and then check the switch with a continuity meter to see if it is faulty. If it is then replace the switch

YES THE MOTOR IS BAD,TO WEAK TO TURN DRUM ON IT'S OWN,IF YOU GET THE MODEL NUMBER FROM INSIDE THE DRYER DOOR MAYBE YOU CAN FIND ONE CHEAP ON EBAY-MIKE

Two possibilities:
1) Least likely cause. Start button is not opening when released. Don't know how far you wish to go with this but it will require some troubleshooting.
2) Most likely cause. Motor start switch has a set of contacts that close when the dryer starts and this set of contacts "seals" around the push button. If this is the case, a new switch is in order. Switch is normally replaceable without replacing the motor.
Other option is use "as is".

Hi,

My Maytag Performa Oversize Capacity Dryer stopped working without a warning. It dried a load on the week-end without a problem. I put a load in on Wednesday, turned the dail to on
but there was no movement or sound.
HELP!
