Question about Brother MFC 210C All-In-One InkJet Printer

Follow up of clogged printhead

This is a follow up of my earlier post regarding clogged printhead on Oct 17.

Obviously my MFC 215c printhead is partially clogged. Is it possible to unclogg by injecting cleaning solution inside empty catridge and using power clean in the maintenance menu. If yes. what kind of cleaning solution should I use? alcohol?

How does one tests if the refil ink is pigment or dyed? Are all dyed ink safe to use on my brother MFC 215C. One of the Guru here(Mix it up) suggests mixing dye ink with cleaning solution (1:10) only for CYM color  to prevent clogging. Will it affect the quality of my print i.e. the colors will come out lighter. How come only CYM are to mix with cleaning solution and not the black too.

my black print is smudgy. So far I have pulled out the cartridge , put it back in and it will go through a cleaning process. It will be clear for a while then be smudged again. the manual says not to do this this but it is the only way I can find. Color printing is fine.

DO use the 1:10 mix and try the powerpurge.

Mix 1ml printhead cleaning solution (search internet) with 10ml of dye ink.

DONT USE ALCOHOL or any other kind of chemical solution except the printhead cleaning solution.

If you wont have success after doing it twice the ph is clogged and cant be fixed anymore!

The printheads construction is like a sandwich: In front of the nozzels is a filter to clean the ink before pressing it through the nozzels onto the paper. That is the main reason why some ink chanels will clog. You cant open the printhead to clean the filter.

Drop some ink into normal water and watch the flow:

dye ink will mix with water (like dropping a paintbrush with watercolors into the cleaning glass) while pigmented ink wont do so:

(translate german by help of google)

The 1:10 mix wont affect the quality though ink always consists of 98-99% of water! It prevents the ink from drying out.

The bk part of the printhead has another stand-alone construction and doesnt need any "support" by help of additives.

I have a Brother MFC-215C.The yellow isnt working.Iwas adviced to clean the print head as recomended by Brother.Idoes it 5 times with no results.please help me.Ilike my printer and dont want to change him.

Replace the yellow ink cartridge and try again. If it's the same then the printing head is clogged. To clean it you must remove it from the printer. For that look at this - it has the same mechanism

UNABLE TO PRINT MFC-215C

Often this error is caused by foreign material in the path of the printhead or under where the printhead has stopped.

Unplug the unit. Open the cover and carefully inspect under the printhead path for little bits of paper, a staple, paperclip, etc. Gently slide the printhead just enough to inspect underneath where it has stopped. You may want to use a flashlight. Remove any foreign material.

Close the cover. Plug the machine back in.

MFC-240C no red when prink out

You may need a new printhead, You get a 1 year warranty with Brother, if it's older than a year, you can buy a new mfc 490 for around $120.00, the printhead will cost more than that to replace and only have a 30 day warranty.

It sounds like you'll need a new printhead.  It'll probably cost a few bucks...maybe 50.  If you need the part number, I'll be able to get it for you on Monday.

Brother MFC-5540cn Print Head replacement

Its quite siple to do if you are able to use a srewdriver... 1#: Go get a 2.hand dcp 110c or 115c at eBay with a good printhead (and a broken scanner glass???). It should print without probs! opening mfc 5440 is nearly the same as a mfc 215c, since all brother printers are of the same built :) follow pictures here http://www.hstt.net/refill-faq/inside.html#Brother_mfc215c For your mfc you have to unfasten some more screws which can be seen very well. After that you can take up the cover. Now you should realize that it looks the same inside as on photos given in the link. Read the rest of "how to change the printhead" here: http://www.fixya.com/support/t209702-get_color_print_black_works_fine there is just one more difference to your mfc! You have to take out the sensor in the ink cart assy of your mfc 5440cn which is clipped at the side and reinsert it into the cart assy of the "new" one! This sensor is placed at the BK cart and signals the mfc that there is a HBK cart. Thats it. This job could be done for a novice within less than an hour. If there are questions afterwards or during surgery post it here!
