Question about Dishwashers

Dishwasher was opened to add dish and would not start back

My wife had just started the dishwasher and after it started running for a couple of minutes, she opened the door to add another dish.

When she closed the door it would not start back.

The control panel is not lighting up.

I checked the breaker, and after finding it was ok, I checked the power chord with a tester. It showed there was power to the dishwasher.

I opened and closed the door several times to make sure the door was closing all the way and was locking and everthing seemed to be fine, except the dishwasher acts like there is no power.

I was wondering if there is a reset button or should I check something else?

Thank you in advance for you help.

What model dishwasher is this? Most dishwashers have a safety switch that halts the wash cycle if the door or latch is opened. I would check this first since the problem originated while opening the door.

A couple of thoughts:

1) It could be a gasket somewhere starting to break down. Check your door seal.

2) Food particles could have gotten caught somewhere in the drain hose, or something, and then turned black with mold and bacteria, then when you wash, they get siphoned back into the dishwasher if the flap which composes the anti-siphon check valve on the drain hose is starting to stick open.

Try putting a cup of bleach in the top rack and run a complete cycle with no other dishes in it. Then, load up some plastic dishes and wash them as normal. See if that helps. If it does, replace your check valve.

Also, insure that your drain hose is looped up above the bottom of your sink to prevent debris from your garbage disposal backing up into your dishwasher.

Good luck and keep us posted!

run unit through a clean cycle. turn on hot water at sink til it gets hot then shut off . then tuen ion dishwasher when it starts washing open door and add 2 cups of white distilled vinegar and let it go through a cycle ( no dishes) when done. turn on hot water at sink before you use dish. also fill both soap cups and use rinse aid or jet dry. you should see better improvements. hope this helps..

Dishes have cloudy film on them

Try this. I want you to run your dishwasher empty, on the hottest water setting. Let it fill and just before it starts the wash cycle put in three cups of white vinegar. I expect your jets are clogged and the vinegar should hopefully open the jets back up. You don't need to add soap during this cleaning process. Works just like when you clean your coffee maker.

Cranky dishwasher

You want to make sure that the dishwasher is level and secure first of all. Then I would look into the door latch assy. Sounds to me that you are not making all the latch switches when closing normally. When you are slamming it, you are making the switches. The heating element runs through the neutral side of switches, therefor if the switch is broken or the latch is not making, no heating of the water. This results in a default or very long wash time. Check this out first....Catriver..post back.
